We're already starting to receive enquiries from people who would like to volunteer over Christmas, which is wonderful to hear.

However, it's worth knowing that traditional "Christmas Day volunteering" opportunities, such as serving meals or helping at festive events, are often limited and can be highly sought after. Many organisations fill these roles well in advance or rely on their regular volunteers.

If you're hoping to make a difference this Christmas, there are lots of other meaningful ways to support your community:
❤️ Check in on a neighbour who may be feeling lonely
🥘 Take a meal or some festive treats to someone who would appreciate them
🎁 Offer practical help to somebody who may be struggling such as picking up a prescription
🎄 Invite someone you know will be spending Christmas alone to join you for part of the day

We're also keen to hear from local charities, community groups and organisations that will be looking for volunteers over the festive period. If you know of any Christmas volunteering opportunities, please let us know so we can share them with people who get in touch.

West Moors Foodbank+ is launching to support local residents and families across the East Dorset area., in partnership with Faithworks Wessex and Wimborne Food Bank.

They are hosting an open morning on Thursday 29 October for local residents, businesses, school representatives and health professionals.

After more than 25 years of dedicated service as a Finance Trustee with Volunteer Centre Dorset, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Alec Bailey as he steps down from his role. 🧡

Over the years, Alec has provided invaluable financial expertise, sound judgement and unwavering support, helping to guide the organisation through many changes and ensuring we remained on a strong financial footing. His knowledge, commitment and thoughtful approach have been a tremendous asset to Volunteer Centre Dorset and the wider community.

Alec's expertise and reassuring presence will be greatly missed by everyone at Volunteer Centre Dorset, particularly Finance Manager Jackie, who has worked closely with him over the years and greatly valued his support, advice and friendship.

While Alec may be retiring from his trustee role, his dedication to serving the community remains as strong as ever. We are delighted that he will continue to be involved with other charities and community organisations, and we know many local people will continue to benefit from his experience and passion.

We wish him every happiness in this next chapter and thank him sincerely for all he has done. 👏
