Reg charity no. 1116404 Since our formation in 2006, our reading partners have supported thousands of young readers across the county.

Dorset Reading Partners recruits,trains, equips and supports volunteers to work in local primary schools helping children with their reading development.

The ‘returns’ table at one of our recent book exchanges!

Our Reading Partners were keen to refresh their book collections as they get to know the children they’re working with this year, making sure they have plenty of books to spark interest and keep young readers engaged.
We have also been delivering refresher training sessions, giving our volunteers a great opportunity to share ideas, exchange tips and experiences, and get ready for the year ahead.

It’s the start of a new school year!

A warm welcome back to all our volunteer Reading Partners as they dust off their book boxes and prepare to return to school, ready for another year of sharing books, stories and reading adventures.

And a big thank you to Battens Solicitors, David & Charles Publishing, Poole Bay Holdings, the BH Coastal Lottery and other recent donors for supporting the work of our brilliant Reading Partners. Your support helps us give more children the opportunity to discover the joy of reading. 💙

📚 Help inspire local children to discover the joy of reading!

We’re looking for more enthusiastic volunteers to join us and make a real difference to children in our local communities, starting in September.

It’s a hugely rewarding role, and full training, ongoing support and all the resources you need are provided — so you don’t need to be an experienced teacher or reading specialist to get involved.

📚 It's that time of year again!

We've sent out over 300 reading certificates to the children we've had the pleasure of working with this year. Each certificate lists all the books they've shared with their Reading Partner—a wonderful record of their reading journey and a fantastic achievement.

A huge well done to every child, and a sincere thank you to our amazing Reading Partners and the schools who have supported them. Together, you've helped make reading fun, rewarding and inspiring.🌟

🌟Celebrating three wonderful reading partners, Rowan, Berys, and Dee, who have collectively given an incredible 26 years of volunteering service to DRP!🌟

As a token of our appreciation we were delighted to present each of them with a complimentary hotel break, generously provided by the wonderful charity Room to Reward.

Thank you, Rowan, Berys, and Dee, for everything you do. Your time, enthusiasm, and kindness make a real difference to the children you support, and we are so grateful to have you as part of the DRP team. 💙

🎉 What better way to celebrate our 20th anniversary than with our favourite illustrator and writer, Nick Sharratt!

Nick joined us after our book exchange and cream tea, and spoke to us about his work before leading a draw-along session where we created some of his well-known creatures and characters. We all had a wonderful time and were very proud of our amazing artwork!
A huge thank you to Nick for helping make our celebration so special.🎨

✏️Our new recruits trying out pencil-and-paper games at our recent training day. These simple activities make great brain breaks and are really useful in their reading sessions with children. Great fun too!
