Dorset Reading Partners recruits,trains, equips and supports volunteers to work in local primary schools helping children with their reading development.

🌟Celebrating three wonderful reading partners, Rowan, Berys, and Dee, who have collectively given an incredible 26 years of volunteering service to DRP!🌟

As a token of our appreciation we were delighted to present each of them with a complimentary hotel break, generously provided by the wonderful charity Room to Reward.

Thank you, Rowan, Berys, and Dee, for everything you do. Your time, enthusiasm, and kindness make a real difference to the children you support, and we are so grateful to have you as part of the DRP team. 💙

🎉 What better way to celebrate our 20th anniversary than with our favourite illustrator and writer, Nick Sharratt!

Nick joined us after our book exchange and cream tea, and spoke to us about his work before leading a draw-along session where we created some of his well-known creatures and characters. We all had a wonderful time and were very proud of our amazing artwork!
A huge thank you to Nick for helping make our celebration so special.🎨

✏️Our new recruits trying out pencil-and-paper games at our recent training day. These simple activities make great brain breaks and are really useful in their reading sessions with children. Great fun too!

Our Volunteer Coordinator Sarah had a lovely afternoon at Gullivers Bookshop choosing some beautiful new books for our Reading Partners to share in their sessions. 📚

We are very grateful to the team and their lovely customers for this generous donation, raised from sales of their carrier bags. Your support helps us put wonderful new stories into the hands of the children we work with.

These books will help us in our mission to inspire a love of reading in every child we support. Thank you!✨

Dorset Reading Partners is looking for a Finance & Fundraising Lead to join our friendly team. We’re a small charity with a big impact, helping children develop a love of reading in primary schools across Dorset.
This flexible, term-time-only role is ideal for someone with experience in finance and/or fundraising who wants to make a meaningful difference in their local community.
You’ll help secure funding, oversee finances, and support the sustainability of our work.

2026 is the National Year of Reading - a nationwide celebration of the joy and value of everyday reading. The Go All In campaign encourages people of all ages to read for pleasure and make reading a regular part of their lives.

Reading Partner Louise recently celebrated ten years of DRP volunteering, courtesy of Room to Reward, with a festive short break at 11 Cadogan Gardens in London – the perfect base for taking in the Christmas lights ✨ She and her husband were wonderfully looked after and had such a fabulous time that they’ve already made their own booking to go back there next year!

📚 What a busy first half term!
It’s been wonderful catching up with our amazing reading partners at recent book exchanges and workshops. Everyone was full of enthusiasm for the year ahead — creating reading maps and choosing fantastic new books and games for this year’s children to enjoy! ✨
