Outland Opera

Outland Opera Outland Opera is a pioneering company of opera professionals producing exciting, site-specific work.

Outland Opera (Registered Charity No. 1194099) takes the magic of immersive theatre one step further: each of our productions tells a story about the place in which it’s performed. We choose dramatic locations with an endangered folklore, where live opera has never been seen before. We hope that this will keep our historic oral traditions alive, encourage communities to try out opera for the first

time (at an affordable price!), and help people discover the secrets hiding in the stones and buildings around their homes. Our first project is The Stones Sing; an operatic triptych based on and at three spectacular locations in Dorset.

Our Artistic Director talks about her chance encounter with opera and why she founded Outland in the first place.

🐉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 DAY THREE - THE WYVERN

Our next mythological character is the subject of one of our upcoming operas - The Wyvern. This is a tiny dragon with only two legs, but very fearsome nonetheless! The Wyvern is the symbol of Saxon Wessex, and was much more popular than the dragon in the Middle Ages - we like to imagine her protecting the land for future generations.

🪶DAY TWO - INTRODUCING ST CATHERINE 👰🏻‍♀️
St Catherine features quite heavily in The Blue Margin. She is the patron saint of unmarried women and has a beautiful chapel dedicated to her in Abbotsbury in Dorset, where young women from the town would pray 'arn-a-one is better than narn-a-one' for a husband. St Catherine herself was actually martyred for refusing to marry the Roman Emperor Maxentius, so she is an odd choice for advocating for husbands! Tune back in tomorrow to hear about our next story. 🦉
