Ping Pong Is Back — And Everyone’s Welcome
Table tennis is having a moment again. The success of Marty Supreme has nudged a lot of people to remember just how good ping pong can be — simple, social, competitive if you want it to be, and surprisingly absorbing. In Doncaster, CHOPP (Church of Ping Pong) has been quietly doing this for 3 years, and now feels like a good time to open the doors a little wider.
CHOPP runs friendly, no-pressure drop-in sessions most Mondays and every Thursday, open to anyone, whatever their level. Some people are complete beginners. Others have come back to the game after years away. There are younger players looking for a relaxed social club, and older ones rediscovering skills they thought they’d lost. What links everyone is a shared enjoyment of the game and the space around it.
Drop-in sessions: Most Mondays & every Thursday
Cost: £3 per session
No booking, no commitment — just turn up and play.
If you decide you want to make it a regular thing, there’s an optional £5 joining fee. This gives access to training camps, friendly matches, and more of what CHOPP offers beyond the weekly sessions. Play is supported by informal guidance and shared knowledge, rather than formal coaching — people helping each other get better, one rally at a time.
This spring, CHOPP will be announcing its next training camp, offering a more focused way to develop skills while keeping the club’s easygoing, social atmosphere intact. The club is also part of a wider network of table tennis groups across the Doncaster region, helping players connect and keeping the local scene active.
Recent improvements to the space — including better equipment and new lighting — have been made possible with support from Doncaster Council’s Get People Moving programme, making the sessions more comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.

Doncaster Unitarian Church
