The Royal Voluntary Service, Doncaster is based at the Women & Children's Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary where we have three Retail Outlets serving the Hospital Community. The Royal Voluntary Service is the new name for the WRVS, or Women's Royal Voluntary Service. The name was changed in May 2013, partly to try to attract more male volunteers and users of our Services and, together with the new Strapline of "Together for Older People", partly to instantly let people know what we do. The Royal Voluntary Service, together with our Emergency Response Teams which attend major incidents, such as the Doncaster floods of recent years with warm food, drink, clothes and support is possibly best known for our Hospital, and Community Centre Shops, Cafes and Trolleys. What a lot of people aren't aware of are the many Services we provide for older people in the Community. The Royal Voluntary Service provided 2 million Meals-on-Wheels in 2012 (and, incidentally, as the Women's Voluntary Service, provided the first ever Meals-on-Wheels Service in Welwyn Garden City in 1943), we also
provided 90 thousand transport journeys for older people in 2012 to Hospital Appointments, local shopping trips or to visit family or friends. Along with the publics generous fundraising acticities, a large part of these Services for older people are paid for by money raised through our Retail Outlets at Hospitals and Community Centres. Outlets such as the 3 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary: The Royal Voluntary Shop at the Women & Children's Hospital, the Coffee Bar at the Fracture Clinic through Gate 2 of the Main Hospital and through our Hospital Trolley Service.
