A joint statement from the LGBTQ Staff Networks at DBTH and RDaSH.
Transgender day of remembrance (TDOR) falls on 20 November. Colleagues from Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) and our trust’s LGBTQ+ staff networks want to highlight the importance of this day and to share our solidarity to all who have been affected by loss and, or violence towards themselves, their family or their friends.
TDOR seeks to highlight the losses our community faces due to hatred and bigotry. Trans hate crime rose by 11% in 2023 in England and Wales and we will sadly likely see that further increase during 2024. At DBTH and our trust we do not accept any form of discrimination or abuse towards our trans colleagues or patients and actively support and pursue when this happened within our services.
The staff networks across both trusts are a safe place for our trans community to join and seek support from their community. We welcome new members along with trans allies joining us.
There are vigils to recognise lives lost being held in both Doncaster and Sheffield this evening:
6:30pm Utilitarian Church in Doncaster, DN1 3PB
5:30pm to 7:30pm Sheffield Winter Gardens, SAYiT event, S1 2LH.
