The World Health Organization has just published its Global Status Report on Cancer 2026, bringing together the latest picture of cancer worldwide.

Lung cancer remained the world’s biggest cancer killer in 2024, causing an estimated 1.9 million deaths. That is more than colorectal and breast cancer.

The report also points to prevention, early detection and improving access to care as central to reducing the burden of lung cancer worldwide.
