By an uncanny coincidence, yesterday Divya Mahajan (India) completed her North Channel solo in 15 hours 50 mins and 24 seconds to become the youngest ever female aged 16 years, 11 months and 5 days. She swam with Pilot Quinton Nelson under NCSA rules with a dispensation due to being under 18.

The coincidence? Maggie Kidd became the 2nd female and youngest female for nearly 4 decades with Pilot Quinton Nelson. The bigger coincidence? Divya completed her swim on 23rd August 2026. Maggie completed her swim on 23rd August 1988!

Maybe somethings really are written in the stars and as another bonus we seen the starlink satellites on the way home halfway across the North Channel.

Congratulations Divya on a momentous swim on a day where the tides really were unfriendly. You fought right to the end and didnt complain once!

UPDATED 0730 31st July 2026:
Following investigation and assessment by our independent arbitrators and external advisors a decision has been reached with regard to this swim.
Whilst the swimmer completed the crossing, the rules governing support swimmers were not adhered to as viewed on video footage released to social media. As such the swim may be recorded as an "assisted" swim only.
UPDATED 27th July 2026 0900hrs: After viewing some video footage and in discussion with the Observer, the status of this swim is under review. Updates will follow. The swim has now been referred to our external advisors.
