If you live in Norfolk, you should have just received a message from the government to your phone saying that we are in a high-risk area for wildfires and issuing guidance.

We are not responsible for stopping people from undertaking the activity below, so please do not call 999 unless it's a genuine emergency, as you may be blocking our call handlers from taking other calls.

If you did not receive the message, then please read it below:

------------------------------------------------

Issued by the UK Government

There is a very high risk of wildfires nationally. Residents, landowners and visitors should not undertake any activity that could start a fire, including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators or fireworks. Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire placing lives, homes, businesses and emergency responders at risk.

Follow official updates and report signs of fire immediately by calling 999. Search gov.uk/alerts for more information.

------------------------------------------------

Please do not be alarmed but continue to follow all the safety guidance in the message. Together we can all help keep Norfolk safe. Thank you.

🔥Here we go again, Norfolk is going to heat up again this week.

Now is not the time for a bonfire, so please don’t light one in the current conditions.

We do not have the powers to ban bonfires, but their use has led to wildfires in Norfolk and across the UK in recent weeks.

These incidents are devastating, destroying land and property and putting humans and animals at risk. They also place additional pressure on emergency responders.

Norfolk’s recycling centres are open across the county and can accept garden waste, and many district councils offer garden waste bins for safe disposal.
