We want to share something deeply upsetting that is currently affecting many families at Burgess Hill Burial Ground.
Recently, families have been told that personal memorial items placed on graves must be removed. This includes small stones, ornaments, colourful decorations and even low fences that have been lovingly and respectfully kept within plot boundaries for years.
For us, Abbie’s grave is not just a headstone.
It is a place of colour, love, care and connection, just like Abbie was.
Many of you who follow Abbie’s Wonderland have visited her resting place. You’ve seen how bright it is, how full of personality it feels, and how it reflects who she was.
Tending to Abbie’s grave, decorating it, choosing things that feel her, this is how we continue to love her. It is how we honour her spirit. It is how we keep her present in our lives.
A petition has now been started asking the council to reconsider and to work with families to find a fair, humane solution that allows existing memorials to remain.
If Abbie’s story has ever touched you, if her colourful resting place has brought you comfort or a smile, or if you believe grieving families deserve kindness and understanding, we would be so grateful if you would support this by signing the petition 🍄✨
