Well what a wonderful afternoon we have had at Diss & District Bowls Club, as we celebrated our 60th Anniversary with a match against David Perry's Norfolk Presidents mixed 2 wood 4's team.
Old friends met up, and new friendships were made, as long time members mingled with this years new members, as well as our visitors.
The rink was a colourful affair, with the sky blue, yellow and red of Diss, contrasting with the red, black and yellow of the President's team, a far cry from the strict grey and white, with compulsory ties, of 60 years ago!
A strong team from Diss were keen to demonstrate their rink awareness, and skills, and a convincing win was played out, with rink 4 (D Leveridge, W Penn, I Muir and S White) coming out top rink on a stunning 35 - 3 win, rink 2 winning 20 - 8, rink 1 winning 22 - 13. Rink 3 were unfortunate not to stage a total comeback, coming through in the latter ends, but ultimately succumbing to a 1 point loss at 14 points to 15, scoring one on the final end, with a good hard look needed to identify 2nd wood.
Total shot score for the match 91 - 39.
The afternoon rounded out with a wonderful buffet meal, and presentations, both of a framed commemoration from David Perry to the club, awards to top rink from each team, and finally a presentation to Mike and Margaret Capon, the club's longest standing members - a highlight as Mike actually played for Diss in the match.
