🌾What a fantastic Open Farm Sunday 🚜

It was brilliant to see so many of our colleagues volunteering, supporting farmers and helping to bring agriculture to life for visitors across the country.

From welcoming families and running activities, to sharing insights on food production and sustainability, our teams were happy to lend a hand as farmers opened their gates to the public.

We're incredibly proud to sponsor Open Farm Sunday, helping more farmers create memorable, educational experiences year after year. It was inspiring to see so many local communities engaging with agriculture first-hand - asking questions, learning more about where their food comes from and discovering the many roles across the industry🌱

Well done to everyone who volunteered or visited, and a huge thank you to the farmers who opened their gates and shared their stories.

📸 Scroll through to see highlights from visits to Oldershaws of Moulton, Oteley Estate in Shropshire, Sir Richard Sutton Ltd in Stainton, Benham Estate in Newbury, Crown Point Estate in Norwich and Park Farm at Thorney - with thanks to our colleagues David, Martin, Alice, Ana, Diane, Lydia, Phil, Richard, Liz, Alex and Emily 👏

Open Farm Sunday LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming)

05/06/2026

🚜 Open Farm Sunday is nearly here! A moment for opening the farm gate, sharing stories and showing the pride behind British farming.

We’re proud to support a campaign that helps people understand what really goes into producing food today: the care for soil, crops and wildlife, the everyday decisions on farm, and the commitment to growing food sustainably for the future.

Many of our colleagues are currently supporting growers in the lead‑up and will be helping out at farms on the day too, talking with visitors about crops, soil health, biodiversity and the journey of food from the field 🌾🍞

We love how much the initiative looks to the future too. It helps inspire the next generation to see the many varied and rewarding roles in modern agriculture, an industry that’s innovative, forward-thinking and full of opportunity!

When cost, farm infrastructure and product suitability can all be factors at play in choosing a fertiliser system, it can be hard to know which direction to take. In this video, farm trader Sophie Whiteman and business development manager Finley Hawkins talk with farm manager Nick Hollinshead about his journey to adopt a hybrid fertiliser system – why he made the choice, what it means for his farm and how his Frontier advisors were instrumental in understanding his options and implementing the change.

🌟Building connections as an Open Farm Sunday volunteer🌟

Farm trader, Ana is one of many Frontier employees who lend a helping hand at Open Farm Sunday, working directly with the growers she supports day-to-day to help tell farming’s story.

Although not from an agricultural background, Ana joined Young Farmers aged 16 where she grew her knowledge of the industry, learned key practical skills and was inspired to pursue a full-time career in the sector. Now she loves sparking that same interest in others!

“Open Farm Sunday demonstrates the best of agriculture and offers a fantastic opportunity for younger generations to experience things they may never otherwise encounter - from learning about the vital role farmers play and the food they produce, to understanding the journey from ‘field to fork’, meeting animals and enjoying tractor rides in the countryside. It’s an event that truly welcomes everyone and leaves a lasting impression.”

It was great to catch up with local growers at our Swallow trial site in Lincolnshire recently. We shared the latest crop nutrition insights and toured the variety trials ahead of our summer open day on Tuesday 16th June. 🌾

Agronomist, Jack Saxby, updated the group on how key wheat varieties are performing so far, along with thoughts on fungicide programmes as we head towards those all-important flag leaf sprays. 🌱

These visits are a great chance to see how things are looking in the field through the season, with practical solutions being tested in conditions that are representative of farms across the region.

💡 If you’d like to experience our research first-hand, why not come along to a summer open day near you?

Last week we saw our final shipment of the season head out from the port of Montrose - 5,000 tonnes of feed barley on its way to Foynes on the west coast of Ireland. 🚢

This grain has been stored in the port since last harvest when the barley market was burdened by some oversupply due to the slowdown in the distilling industry. Great to see the UK’s export market now benefitting from that surplus, and in good time to make space available for harvest ’26.

Elsewhere shipments continue, with more high-quality British grain due out from the port of Aberdeen this week! 🌾
