Drill? Not tonight. 🏉

Tonight was sport night, with our cadets getting stuck into some games, burning off some energy and, judging by these photos, having a pretty good time doing it.

Sport is just one of the many things cadets get the chance to try, with plenty of opportunities to get active, work as a team and have a bit of fun along the way.

Because there’s a lot more to being an Air Cadet than standing on a parade square.

Tonight wasn’t about drill. It was about ideas. 💡

Our cadets have been getting creative, designing some new recruitment materials for the squadron.

From coming up with the ideas to deciding how we actually present them, it’s another chance to develop skills that go well beyond the parade square: creativity, teamwork, communication and problem-solving.

Because being an Air Cadet isn’t just about marching up and down.

A slightly smaller introduction to aviation… ✈️

Cadets from 1070 (Diss) Squadron recently visited Stoke Ash Model Flying Club, where they were given an introduction to radio-controlled flying and the skills needed to keep an aircraft safely in the air.

From watching some impressive aerobatics to getting hands-on with the controls, it was a brilliant opportunity to learn more about flight, aircraft handling and the work that goes on behind every successful take-off and landing.

A huge thank you to everyone at Stoke Ash Model Flying Club for giving up their time and sharing their knowledge with us.

Some aircraft may be smaller than others. The concentration required is not.

Paper. Straws. Tape. Toilet roll tubes.

Not exactly NASA-grade engineering… but that didn’t stop our cadets launching into STEM night with full competitive intent. 🚀

The challenge: build a rocket, test it, tweak it, then see whose creation could fly the highest and land closest to the target.

A brilliant night of problem-solving, teamwork, and just the right amount of chaos.

No ordinary hobby. No ordinary you.

A brilliant day at Wing Athletics for Team 1070. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏅

From the first event to the final presentations, our cadets gave everything on the track and in the field, supported one another throughout the day, and represented the squadron with pride.

These are the moments that make the RAF Air Cadets special: challenging yourself, working as a team, celebrating success, and making memories along the way.

🏅 WING ATHLETICS 2026 RESULTS 🏅

What a day for Team 1070!
After our biggest Wing Athletics turnout in years, our cadets put in an outstanding performance on the track and field, bringing home an impressive collection of medals for the squadron.

🥇 Cadet Foster – Gold Medal, 800m

🥇 Flight Sergeant Williams – Gold Medal, Javelin

🥈 Flight Sergeant Williams – Silver Medal, 1500m

🥈 Cadet Phillips – Silver Medal, 800m

These medals represent not only athletic ability, but also the commitment, determination and squadron spirit shown by all of our cadets throughout the day.

A huge well done to every member of Team 1070 who took part and represented the squadron so brilliantly. Whether competing on the track, in the field events, or supporting teammates from the sidelines, every cadet played their part.

Congratulations to our medal winners and thank you to the staff, organisers and supporters who made the day possible.

Whatever the results bring, these cadets have already done the hard part: stepping up, putting themselves forward and representing 1070 (Diss) Squadron.

✈️ One aircraft. Several teams. No full plan.

Last night, the RAF Engagement Team took over parade night and set our cadets a proper teamwork challenge.

Each group had to build a separate section of an aircraft, without knowing what the other groups were building. Only designated runners could pass messages between teams. 🏃‍♂️📣

The result?
Clear communication.
Quick thinking.
Leadership under pressure.
And one aircraft coming together piece by piece. 🚀

A huge thank you to the RAF Engagement Team for an excellent evening, and to our friends from Wymondham Squadron for joining us. 🤝
