Our February meeting was a workshop on Tassels, led by Maureen Marshall.
Maureen gave us some background and history of tassels and displayed her beautiful collection, some of which came from Venice. She then guided us though making a basic tassel and then we created another of our own design. Our thanks to Maureen for an interesting and absorbing session.
For show and tell Juliette brought her beautiful scarf, woven on her Saori loom and then showed us 2 examples of English long-drawn spinning and answered questions from the group.
Five of our members attend the Guild gathering at Carrow House on Sunday March 8th, where we had plenty of time to network and take part in the workshops.
Next Guild meeting - Thursday 26th March.

October's meeting was a talk by Jayne Delarre on ‘Viking Weaving’

Jayne Delarre and her husband Steve brought to the meeting a warp weighted’ loom and many examples of the weaving that she had completed on the loom. In addition she brought artifacts, tools, and manikins dressed in viking clothes. One piece of clothing was a cape made from wool from Hebridean sheep.

Jayne was dressed in Viking clothing and gave us an informative talk about Viking weaving, the culture and crafts of the time using images on a screen. She demonstrated how the loom operated and members and visitors could try their hand at weaving.

This was an ‘Open Meeting’ and had been advertised among Norfolk and Suffolk Guilds, and other textile crafts organisations.

Many thanks to Jayne and Steve for their fascinating talk.

Our guest speaker for June was Kally Davidson, who talked about free form crocheting and presented examples of flowers, buds, stems and amoeba looking creations - all brightly coloured and very textured. Some of which glowed!

Some of us were experienced at crochet others with very limited knowledge. With Kally's help we then experimented trying to recreate these magnificent shapes. A fun time was had by all.

Look out for us at Diss Carnival on Sunday 7th June.

The focus on April's meeting was Saori weaving. A talk presented by Susan Percival and Sue Delf, which covered amongst others: the history, philosophy, equipment and some of the techniques used by 'devotees' of Saori weaving. There was a lively Q and A session and plenty of samples for all to see and handle.
This was followed by a 'show and tell' by Susan Percival who explained how she had spun some easy spin cotton into an amazingly even and fine 2 ply.

Next meeting 29th May - topic Free form crochet by Cally Davidson.
