Shorelands Shorelands is a conservation organisation, based in South Norfolk. Many seldom seen species including waders, herons, storks, cranes, parrots and hornbills.

We restore habitats and manage evidence based species recovery projects across Norfolk and Suffolk. Small traditional 'Wildlife Gardens', with free-ranging waterfowl and an interesting collection of rarer species, exhibited in spacious themed aviaries. Attractive gardens, with large collection of hardy perennials and some interesting trees.

In Suffolk, we are working with colleagues to survey and improve habitat for the Wall Butterfly.
The species is widespread but rapidly declining, being classed as Endangered (GB Red List 2022) and is listed under Section 41 as a species of principal importance under the NERC Act in England.
At our Haddiscoe Island site, we are restoring the wildflower meadows and have a significant population of this beautiful butterfly.

We've been busy harvesting Milk-parsley seeds for our Suffolk Swallowtail Butterfly project.
We are growing thousands of plants, to create habitat corridors along river valleys, with the aim of enabling a natural expansion of the butterflies range.

We were out at our Haddiscoe reserve this morning, completing a breeding bird survey.
Lots of Reed & Sedge Warbler, Reed Bunting, Bearded T**s, Skylark and Meadow Pipits. A few pairs of Redshank, Water Rail and Shelduck. Several pairs of Marsh Harrier, but no obvious signs of nest sites.
Other birds seen included 2 Great White Egret, 3 Little Egrets, 6 Grey Heron and a Curlew.

Due to upcoming poor weather, our Westleton Common ringing demonstration scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed and will now take place on Saturday 27th June. We hope to see you there and appreciate your understanding!

Join us for a bird ringing demonstration
Westleton Common, Westleton, Suffolk on . A chance to see resident and migratory species close up, learn about identification, ringing and the Nightingales and other heathland species that call the site home.
This demonstration is part of our Nightingale Project and is delivered in partnership with the Waveney Bird Club and Westleton Parish Council.
