Last Friday, after preparing the soup for our lunch, the Friday Futures tried their hand at a bit of crayon-resist painting under the supervision of Megan.

Meanwhile, in Dingwall, Penny, Douglas and Adrian were meeting Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty and HM King Charles during his visit.
Our three EWCC representatives had the honour of receiving the KAVS glass trophy, which is an engraved optical crystal award given to volunteer groups that win the The King's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest honor given to local voluntary groups in the UK and the institutional equivalent of an MBE.
A very proud Douglas rushed back to the cabin to share this beautiful memento with the Friday Futures group before they went home.

Lovely Friday!

Concert no.2 in the woods. Greenshanks. Sat 4th July. 3.30pm.
Will Boyd-Wallis (GREENSHANKS) is a singer-songwriter, woodworker and ecologist based in Strathspey. A finalist at the Danny Kyle Open Stage, Celtic Connections 2023 he launched his first album STORMBIRD in March 2025.
Drawn from a lifelong connection with the landscapes, people and wildlife of the Highlands and islands, his songs are delivered with atmosphere, purposeful storytelling, insight, warmth and genuine passion. There is a mellow Nick Drake sophistication to his guitar playing and an effortless, relaxed and conversational tone to his vocals.
With an intensely busy job as Operations Manager for the National Trust for Scotland in the West Highlands his gigs are rare and not to be missed.
Reviews:
"He resonates with all the wisdom and experience of a man who has spent considerable time in the wilds" - Hamish Napier
"His songs are rich with honesty, emotional depth, fragility and rhythmic power" - Becky Doe
"He is healing, honest, authentic, pure and from a place that is true" - Mayara Terra
"La chanson de Will Boyd-Wallis est magnifique, l’interprétation délicieuse et l’émotion palpable" - Emmanuel Boitier

Lovely morning by the Cabin. The Friday Futures group had a special visit from Graeme Rae, who recently completed the Celtman extreme triathlon https://cxtri.com/ and raised £1k for Evanton Community Wood. He was accompanied by his wife (and traithlon team support) Catriona Campbell, whose father Dr Stuart Campbell attends and enjoys the weekly sessions at the woodland cabin. Other surprise visitors were Henrietta the Norway-based daughter, along with her 2 children, of our much-missed regular member Annik Mowat. And we celebrated the birthdays of regular participant Margaret and her regular driver/befriender Penny.

What a busy wood last weekend !

🛶 🪵The mini raft building and launching attracted a few families , some a bit bleary eyed after the middle of the night football game the night before! The launching down at the river bend was rather competitive and turned into a fun race quite quickly with a few wet feet!

🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ Next was the Charlotte Young Memorial Muddy Mile Mayhem organised by Thomas in memory of a very special lady. We were blown away by how many people attended this fun run and the efforts produced by all participants.

🎶 🌳 Finally, we enjoyed the delightful Eejits who offered a lovely performance at Mag's Wood shelter.

🎊We are delighted to have been part of Evanton Gala 's busy program and thank everyone who supported these events, as well as the Evanton coop for their help with refreshments. ✨️

☕️🫖Don't forget to pop in to the cabin today if you fancy a cuppa and a blether with the Friday Futures group. We are having a special guest as well!!! 🤩🤫
