You are all invited to the AGM of Evanton Wood Community Company on Mon. 5th Oct. in the Diamond Jubilee Hall (committee room) at 7.30pm. There will be refreshments and a chance to catch up on what we have been doing over the past year (slide show included). You do not need to be a member, although we encourage people to think of joining (on the night).
Recently we have been improving some wet and muddy paths and some that have been blocked; also we have created 3 mini 'leaky dams' to slow the flow of the stream and increase the breadth of the wetland area. Earlier we have removed a lot of tree protection covers.

We recently had a delightful visit by a large group linked to Oregon State University https://oregonstate.edu/about
They were very interested in our (modest-sized) community owned woodland and were very generous in their donations.

Visit last Friday by 24 folk connected with Oregon State University. Very friendly and interested bunch - and generous! They evidently enjoyed seeing what we get up to as a community wood.

Last Friday, after preparing the soup for our lunch, the Friday Futures tried their hand at a bit of crayon-resist painting under the supervision of Megan.

Meanwhile, in Dingwall, Penny, Douglas and Adrian were meeting Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty and HM King Charles during his visit.
Our three EWCC representatives had the honour of receiving the KAVS glass trophy, which is an engraved optical crystal award given to volunteer groups that win the The King's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest honor given to local voluntary groups in the UK and the institutional equivalent of an MBE.
A very proud Douglas rushed back to the cabin to share this beautiful memento with the Friday Futures group before they went home.

Peter Noble and Liam Ross. 4th Summer Concert at the Mag's Wood Shelter in Evanton Community Wood. Sun. 9th August. 3.30pm. Peter Noble and Liam Ross are two local musicians who write and record music written about the local area of the Cromarty Firth. This performance in the woods is a great chance to hear songs inspired about local locations and stories. 'I'm excited to be playing in the wood, a great location and always a special atmosphere'. Peter Noble.

There will be songs about local rivers, trees and walks as well as music based on local history and events and some more unusual songs including a song to attempt to find agreement on the new bin system and what should go where!

Come along to see, hear (and dance to) the 2026 Fèis Rois Ceilidh Trail https://feisrois.org/?projects=ceilidh-trail on Sat 25th July in Evanton Community Wood at 3.30pm. Admission free (thanks to Kiltearn Community Council windfarm grants) but donations are very welcome. Refreshments. Toilet on site. 15 mins walk from the village. Mag's Wood area.

Our Ceilidh Trail will be hitting the road again in 2026 and we are now open for applications!

A lovely slow Friday morning at the cabin this week our 5 Friday Futures. Some went for a walk, some stayed put and coloured in. As always , we prepared lunch together and washed up together.
