SOFEA was founded in 2014, with the focus of enabling people to transform their lives. We are a charity head quartered in Didcot with a second location added in Milton Keynes. Using surplus food, we distribute to thousands of people per week, across our local communities. We work with disadvantaged people, (mostly young people) helping them gain qualifications in English and Math, providing work e

xperience and offering wellbeing support. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to find out further information on how you can support us. We offer corporate volunteering days, and various fund-raising events throughout the year.

Congratulations to everyone receiving their GCSE results today!

Today marks the end of months of hard work, determination and resilience. Whether you've achieved the grades you were hoping for, exceeded your expectations, or simply got through a challenging year, you should be incredibly proud of what you've accomplished.

If your results weren't what you hoped for, please remember that one set of grades does not define your future. Many successful journeys take unexpected turns, and there are always opportunities to keep moving forward.

đź’™ At SOFEA, we support young people who need to continue working towards their Maths and English GCSEs. Through personalised learning, mentoring and skills development, we help young people build confidence, gain qualifications and progress into education, training and employment.

If you didn't get the grades you needed, don't worry. We're here to help.

A new Community Larder has opened in Fishermead, Milton Keynes!

Launched with Milton Keynes City Council at Pebbles Family Centre, the larder is here to help ease the cost of living while cutting food waste, offering fresh, nutritious food at a fraction of the price.

🥕 What is a Larder? It's a neighbourhood food club. For just £4.50 a week (individual) or £9 (family), members get up to £15 worth of subsidised fresh food - plus the chance to meet neighbours and access useful local support.

💚 Open to everyone — no means testing, no being on specific benefits required. Just a welcoming space for anyone in the community.

Every Larder we open means we can reach more families, reduce food waste, and bring communities closer together, because everyone deserves access to good food.

📍 Pebbles Family Centre, Fishermead, Milton Keynes

You may notice a new name appearing alongside SOFEA… 👋

FareShare UK and The Felix Project have joined forces and are now Felix - creating one stronger national organisation working to rescue surplus food and get it to communities that need it.

SOFEA has been a proud FareShare Network Partner for many years, and we are now a Network Partner of Felix.

So, what does that mean for our community?

SOFEA will continue collecting and redistributing good quality surplus food across Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes, helping it reach local people rather than going to waste.

But behind the scenes, bringing these two organisations together creates an opportunity to:

• rescue more surplus food
• reach more communities
• strengthen the national food redistribution network
• create a more resilient supply of food for organisations like SOFEA

You’ll gradually start to see the new Felix name and branding appearing on our vans, signage, leaflets and other materials as we make the transition.

The name behind the network may be changing. Our purpose isn’t.

We’ll continue turning surplus into opportunity, getting good food where it’s needed and using it to strengthen communities and create opportunities for young people.

“SOFEA is an empowering place…it’s where our young people build hope”

Our charity aims to support disadvantaged young people in Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes to help them build a positive future. Whether that’s supporting them through their education, employability and therapeutic wellbeing, everything we do at it’s core aims to build their life after SOFEA 🩵

Could you donate to our fundraiser and help us transform more young people’s lives. We are looking for support from all of our community to help us continue the viral work of empowering our next generation 💚

On 3 July, we were proud to officially open the doors to our new Unit 15 site in Milton Keynes, alongside the Mayor of Milton Keynes Trendall, supporters, partners, and members of our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and took the time to walk through the space, meet our team, and hear directly from the young people whose lives are being transformed through SOFEA.

The day was made especially memorable by two inspiring young people. Naila bravely shared her personal journey, speaking openly about where she started and who she has become. Chelsea moved the room with a powerful poem about her experience at SOFEA. Their courage and honesty reminded us all exactly why this work matters.

SOFEA was founded on a simple belief: every young person deserves a genuine chance, regardless of the barriers they face.

There is a growing need for this support across Milton Keynes, and Unit 15 will help us meet that challenge. But what happens next depends on the support of people and organisations who believe in creating opportunities for young people.

If you would like to support the opening of our new site and help us achieve our goal of doubling our impact, please consider donating:

June saw the second annual SOFEA Sports Day in Milton Keynes, despite feeling the effects of an on-going heatwave.

Rae Stapleton, SOFEA’s Behavioural Change Lead:

“Our annual Sports Day was a fantastic success and a real testament to the dedication, professionalism and resilience of our Level 2 students. Despite the challenges posed by the extreme weather warnings, the team adapted exceptionally well to the changes in venue and event schedule, ensuring the day remained enjoyable, inclusive and well organised for everyone involved.

Their generous support helped elevate this year’s event to the next level, providing opportunities and experiences that would not have been possible without their contribution. We are incredibly proud of what our students achieved and hope to build on this year’s success, creating an even bigger and better Sports Day next year with the continued support of our valued sponsors and community.”

A huge thank you goes to our sponsors: Snap Finance, our gold sponsor, our silver sponsor, Edwards Surfacing and MK City Limited, and a huge thank you to Merkur Casinos for kindly supporting us with further funding to help cover the costs of the event.
