Pendennis got a new vacuum gauge last week. The previous one had got a bit grubby with soot inside the glass, so it will be cleaned up and readied for use elsewhere in due course.

Whilst 2999 Lady of Legend has been away for Didcot on hire for some time now, we are still involved in maintaining the engine. This season, she has been on hire to our friends at the Bluebell Railway - and is by all accounts handling the challenges of the line very well.

Last weekend, Leigh and Jack made the trip down to Sussex with a new set of firebars to fit to Lady of Legend during her current maintenance period.

If you haven't been down to see her yet, why not plan a trip? The bark on the climb to East Grinstead is ... well ... go, hear, enjoy!

1340 Trojan was due a washout and a bit of running maintenance today. The boiler was washed out, tubes cleaned, piston glands repacked, and the troublesome fireman's side injector steam valve ground in again. The engine also got a good clean, and then test steamed to make sure all was well with the refitted boiler plugs.

In between running the service on the demonstration line, 4144 was able to provide a sock drying service for those soaked in the line of duty...
