Calling all sketchers, drawers , doodlers, mark makers and Artists- don't miss this unique opportunity to make your own artist's charcoal with our very own Barrow Man in Crow Nest Park.

Smoke, fire, wood, drawing and conversation.

The Barrow Man artist Stephen Turner, with Waheeda Kothdiwala, invites you to gather wood, tend the fire, make charcoal and draw together in Crow Nest Park.

Fours sessions from 10.30-12.30, starting on Thursday 4th June, and 11th June, 18th June & 25th June.

From first gathering wood from different trees during a gentle walk around the park, to examination and preparation of the wood (sorting, cutting and placement in sealed tins), cooking charcoal over an open fire pit (with refreshments); and then together drawing the trees that provided the wood.

Everyone welcome, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The events are free but booking is essential as places are limited- hurry as we know this is going to be popular!

We had a great evening with and guests this week at the Bath House Gallery, University of Huddersfield reflecting on our many film commissions showcasing the rich mosaic of people and places of North Kirklees. Amongst those was 'The Mill'- Calderdale Carpets in Dewsbury- fascinating to see their pride in their work, the workings of the narrow and broad looms, and to hear form one of the ' creelers'. https://www.creativescene.org.uk/watch-online/life-in-our-towns/

We are delighted to present our short films as part of this new exhibition at The Bath House Gallery, University of Huddersfield. Visit for free at Sovereign Design House until 1 May 2026.
