Would you like to improve your communication skills, make your services more accessible, or gain a recognised qualification in British Sign Language (BSL)? We have TWO fantastic, fully funded BSL courses coming to Gasyard Centre, Derry! 🎉

💚 BSL BASIC – 8-WEEK COURSE

📅 Starting Tuesday 20th October
🕙 10am–12 noon (weekly)
📍 Gasvard Centre, Derry, BT48 7GA

Perfect for those working or volunteering in the community and voluntary sector, this course is an opportunity to develop your understanding of the Deaf community, explore how we communicate and consider how we can make our services more inclusive, accessible and welcoming.

Whether you're supporting service users, engaging with local communities or looking to improve your organisation's approach to accessibility, this is a great place to start!

💛 BSL LEVEL 1 – 24-WEEK FORMAL QUALIFICATION

📅 Starting Wednesday 21st October
🕖 7pm–9pm (weekly)

Open to everyone, this is your opportunity to work towards a formal BSL Level 1 qualification and build your signing skills in a supportive learning environment.

Building Stronger Communities Through Connection, Inclusion & Understanding

Join us in the Gasyard Centre Drum on Friday 16th October as we come together to celebrate Good Relations Week 2026 and explore this year's theme, INCLUDE.
Good relations are about more than simply living alongside one another. They're about building meaningful relationships, recognising our shared experiences and creating communities where everyone feels welcomed, valued and respected.

💬 Community Connection- Panel Discussion
We're delighted to welcome three guest panellists who will share their knowledge, experiences and perspectives:

⭐ Linda McKinney – General Manager, Gasyard Development Trust
⭐ Roisin McLaughlin – North West Community Network
⭐ Dr Gráinne McAnee – Psychology, Mental Health & Wellbeing

Together, we'll explore how our communities have evolved, the importance of belonging and connection, the barriers to inclusion that still exist, and how we can work collectively towards a more connected and inclusive future.

This will be an informal, welcoming conversation, with opportunities for everyone to share their thoughts, ask questions and connect with others.

On Friday, we hosted a Culture Day Open Event at the Gasyard Centre, a chance to showcase the wide variety of talent that comes through our doors every week.

Invitations went out to our funders, stakeholders, service users and a range of public and private sector organisations. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to those who sent their well wishes when they couldn't attend. We were especially grateful to the Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District for taking the time to be with us.

Although the event was set up for our guests, it also gave us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how much we have achieved in the two years since we reopened after redevelopment, and over the thirty years since the Gasyard Development Trust was founded.

We felt a real sense of pride in showing off our fantastic facilities, facilitators and programmes, and the feedback and new collaboration opportunities that have followed have been very encouraging. We take great pride in being warm and welcoming, and in offering genuine opportunities to individual artists, community groups and private organisations. We look forward to building on these in the year ahead, and to forging new partnerships along the way.
