The Derby Rights and Representation Foundation (DRRF) was established by former Derby North MP Chris Williamson. It is based at 9A Theatre Walk in the Intu Centre just down from the Derby Playhouse and has been operating out of these premises since May 2016. It was set up to provide free support and advocacy on issues such as social security benefits, housing and fuel poverty etc. The project aims

to help fill the void created by government reductions to legal aid and financial support for public bodies like Derby City Council, which has resulted in funding to local groups being withdrawn. The initiative was made possible because of seed-corn grants from four local trade unions; Unite, FBU, UCATT and ASLEF, which enabled the venture to be launched. As well as offering face-to-face advice at 9A Theatre Walk, DRRF operates an outreach service in community centres around the city and runs workshops on navigating the benefits system. Assistance from DRRF is open to anyone living in Derby and Derbyshire.
