I had the great pleasure and privilege today of being one of the speakers at the official opening of the "Colin Bloomfield Sun Shade", at Alvaston Park.
Colin, who was for many years Radio Derby's principal commentator at Derby County matches and then the presenter of their Breakfast Show, sadly passed away one year ago tomorrow of skin cancer.
The Colin Bloomfield Melanoma Fund has raised nearly a staggering £175K, which has been used to raise the awareness of children and adults to the dangers of skin cancer and also through the fund checked hundreds of people out for skin cancer. In addition the fund has built this the first of two sun shades in Alvaston Park. The second sun shade will be built in Dervyshire. I know that the people of Alvaston will be honoured to have the sun shade in their Park and almost within the site the IPRO Stadium, where Colin gave so many great match commentaries.
You will always be remembered Colin by the people of City of Derby!
