Community Action Derby Community Action offers advice and support to voluntary and community organisations in Derby.

Community Action Derby is a registered charity providing support and guidance for voluntary and community groups. We run training courses and have lots of resources to help you gather all the information you need to run your voluntary or community group effectively. We also find out what is going on in your community and try to ensure that your community's needs and issues are taken into account when decisions are made by statutory bodies, such as Derby City Council.

๐Ÿ”ธWould you like to help provide governance & direction for our work?

If you answered yes to the above, then this is an exciting opportunity to bring your expertise to a highly regarded local support charity with 800+ member charities and community groups in Derby.

Community Action Derby supports the local voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE) with training, development and information, and also advocates for and campaigns on behalf of the sector. We also recruit volunteers to support local charities and public services.

As a trustee, you will play a key role in guiding our strategic direction and ensuring we continue to deliver meaningful impact for Derbyโ€™s communities.

We are keen to ensure that Community Action is as representative of its membership as possible.

On behalf of the Derby Poverty Commission, Emma Bates - specialist in financial resilience/ financial wellbeing/ anti-poverty and financial capability will be delivering this free training, which aims to:

๐Ÿ”น Increase understanding of what financial resilience means
๐Ÿ”น Provide an overview of different issues affecting people such as: income, credit, access to banking, debt, saving, financial capability/financial education and more.
๐Ÿ”น Increase knowledge of all the available services that can help people.

What options are available to help alleviate these stresses?

This session will answer these questions and more, with real, practical advice that will help you get the most out of your charity or not-for-profit organisation.

Are you interested in building a career supporting disabled children or adults but need experience and qualifications to get started?

Fun-abil8y Moving Forward, run by St James Centre, Derby, offers a Volunteer Pathway designed to help people gain experience while working towards a career in health and social care.

As part of the programme, you will:
โœจ Gain hands-on work experience by volunteering a minimum of 12 hours per week.
๐ŸŽ“ Be supported to achieve a Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification.
๐Ÿ’ผ Receive a guaranteed interview for a Support Worker role upon successful completion of the course.

St James Centre is looking for caring, enthusiastic people with a genuine interest in supporting others. Applicants will need to pass an enhanced DBS check and provide two references.
