A Derby Speakers Club ASC team triumph at the North Midlands' Area Contest (Derby, Lincoln, Loughborough and Newark) in Whatton on Saturday, 21st February. Derby fielded a chair, three timekeepers, one winner and two runners-up - special thanks are due to Jamie Guadagni and Paul McCracken. Congratulations to: Richard Terry (Topics winner), Rebecca Shaw (runner-up, Prepared Speech) and Carrie Terry (runner-up, Evaluation) from Derby, and to Saron Bekele of Loughborough SC who took first position in Evaluation and Ian Jones from Newark SC who not only came first in the Prepared Speech, but also runner-up in Topics. Thanks to Dilwyn Scott of Stourbridge SC and West Midlands Area President and Anne Eldridge, Past Midlands District President for expert judging!

What a wonderful evening we had on Tuesday night at our Prepared Speech and Evaluation Club Contest. The turnout was wonderful despite inclement weather. There were 13 of us including Chief Judge, Martin Cox, supported by Guest Judge, Ursula Friede from Loughborough Speakers. Rebecca Shaw won the Prepared Speech category with Richard Terry⁩ in second place, and Richard Terry⁩ won the Speech Evaluation contest followed by Carrie Saint. Congratulations to the winners!

Another entertaining, informative and educational night at Derby Speakers Club ASC! Congratulations to Eric Boultbee on his Foundation Certificate of Achievement, presented by Area President, Martin Cox. An Evaluation Workshop, led by Club President, Carrie Terry, was a useful introduction to the art of appraisal for new members and more seasoned speaking veterans alike!

🎤 A New Chapter for Derby Speakers Club!

Last night we held our very first meeting at our potential new venue — and what a success it was! A fantastic turnout of members and guests filled the room with energy, ideas and laughter.

A special mention goes to David, who delivered a passionate and inspiring speech that perfectly captured the spirit of our club — confident communication, genuine connection, and continuous growth.

We’re thrilled to see our club thriving and exploring new opportunities to make public speaking accessible and enjoyable for even more people in Derby.
