This morning, we were up bright and early to help out at the Brewer's 5K and 10K races in Burton! 🏃‍♂️

We had a group of cadets running the bag drop for both races and another group handing out medals, water and very well deserved biscuits 🥇

We also ran into our own Cpl Boddy, Cpl Li and also the the Boss, Sqn Ldr Mills who all took part in the 10K for their own personal fitness and goals. 👏🏼

Volunteering and helping out in our local communities is at the heart of our Squadron and is always such a brilliant experience and opportunity for our cadets!

Thank you to RunThrough for having us again, and Burton Albion FC was a brilliant venue!

Success at Cross Country 2026 🥇

This weekend, a fantastic team of our cadets competed at the Cross Country competition 2026 in Blaby, and we won!

A brilliant result for the cadets and the staff team, whose efforts leading up to the competition have been rewarded! Congratulations to everyone involved and we can't wait to see our cadets represent the region!

🥈 & 🥉 2nd place medal to Cdt Boddy and 3rd place to CPL Li, both in the Senior Boys category 👏🏼

Our Commanding Officer, Flt Lt Mills RAFAC said “It’s such a fantastic effort from the team and shows that all of the hard work, training and preparation before the event really does pay off. The team performed brilliantly and they should all be very proud of what they have achieved”

September Recruitment Night 2026!

Last week, our own FS Gillham attended two events with Derby's Mayor ( Derby City Council ) as the Mayor's Cadet.

FS Gillham attended a blessing service was held for the new Royal British Legion Standard, Mackworth and New Zealand Branch. 🐑

He also attended a Citizenship ceremony where individuals were welcomed to Derby and officially became British citizens.

It is amazing to see such an outstanding member of the Squadron representing 126 and air cadets as a whole, being involved with the community and getting the opportunity to be involved in these events

Let's have a look at what the Squadron has been up to in August 2026!

RAF St Mawgan Camp ✈️
FS Gillham and CDT Dixon both got the amazing opportunity to travel down to RAF St Mawgan in Cornwall for a week long camp! They had the chance to see experience the RAF base itself and the aircraft stationed there, as well as joining in with First Aid, sports, feildcraft and more!
And, as they were in Cornwall, they got to go to the beach too!
One of our staff members, Flt Lt Pollen, was also a staff member on the camp so got to experience this amazing camp with them!

Awards 🥇
Plenty of awards and certifications handed out in August including:
- Basic swimming proficiencies
- Intermediate swimming proficiencies
- Leading cadet qualifications
and many more!

Sector Archery competition 🏹
Our Squadron Archery team competed against other squadrons in this year's archery competition and we won!
We are very proud of our team and especially of SGT Rose, who won best shot! 🎯

Goodbyes 😢
Sadly we said goodbye to two of our NCO's this month, SGT Hinckley and SGT Rose, who both aged out.We wish both of them the best of luck and success in their future's and would like to help them both for their year's of service and contributions to the squadron!

Dragon's den night 📈
Each of our flights had the evening to design and present their own survival product/system that could be used by the military.
They presented their products to our very own dragons to try and secure funding for their project. Safe to say, there were some very interesting and innovative designs!

Sector Archery competition 🏹

On Saturday, a group of our cadets took part in the Wing Archery competition along with multiple other squadrons. A special mention to SGT Rose, who shot two bullseye's which massively contributed to 126 winning the competition! 🏆 🎯

A huge congratulations to everyone who competed and a huge well done to all our 126 cadets that competed and helped us win! 🥇

IACE 2026

What a night! On Wednesday 22nd July 2026, 126 (City of Derby) Squadron hosted the UK IACE contingency; a group of cadets from around the world and the supporting UK staff and cadets.

The night was a celebration of the Air Training Corps and the UK, showing the international visitors the best we have to offer! This included laser clay shooting, feildcraft, archery, music and much much more! We also introduced many of our visitors to fish and chips for the first time!

We had guests from Derbyshire County Cricket Club and Derbyshire Constabulary join us for the evening to show off Derbyshire, outside of Air Cadets. We also had the pleasure of hosting the deputy Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire () and Derby's own Mayor (Derby City Council)!

To conclude the night, we had the cake cutting ceremony and then time for swaps! This is a highlight of the IACE evening every year where the cadets get the opportunity to swap bits from their country, such as patches, rank slides and more with each other. (Australia was very prepared, look at that patches board!! 🇦🇺)

We were honoured with certificates of thanks and gifts from the visiting countries as a thank you for hosting the night. Our OC was also gifted a personalised Harrier painting as a thank you.

A memorable night for sure, thank you to everyone who attended, we hope you all enjoyed the evening!

See what we've been getting up too in June at 126 Squadron!

CINEMA TRIP 🎥
Started the month off strong with a trip to the cinema to celebrate all the hard work everyone has put in so far this year, with Top Gun Maverick ✈️
Safe to say, the cadets loved it! (and the nachos 😂)

FAMILY NIGHTS
We hosted two family nights in June, which was a brilliant opportunity for parents, siblings, carers and families to join us for a parade night to see what the cadets get up too!
Each flight planned and ran their own night, with the tasks including Leadership, First Aid and Drill ⛑️
It was amazing to see so many people at the Squadron to support the cadets!

AWARDS 🏆
We had a huge variety of badges, certificates and awards this month, including CREST awards, Blue Wings, Silver Space, Blue First Aid and many more!
We love seeing the cadets hard work paying off, well done to everyone 👏🏼

GOODBYES 👋🏼
Sadly, our CWO aged out this month so we had to say goodbye to CWO Sandland 👋🏼 Thankfully though, it wasn't for long as she is now the newest member of our Staff Team and is now a Civilian Instructor !

PROMOTIONS
We've had two promotions this month, adding to our NCO team at 126:
Cdt Li (H) has been promoted to CPL and is now part of D Flight.
Following his interview, FS Brown is now our new CWO!
Congratulations to you both 👏🏼

DRUMMING 🥁
We have seen a return in drumming lessons this month with our new practice pads, in preparation for our Corps of Drums making a return! 🥁

RECRUIT TRAINING
Our current recruit flight have been continuing to work hard with their training including uniform upkeep and drill. The next generation of 126 Cadets 🙌🏼

LONGEST DAY ✈️
A group of our cadets had the fantastic opportunity to take part in an event called Longest Day with 644 Volunteer Gliding Squadron (644 Volunteer Gliding Squadron) at RAF Syerston.
They all got to go up in a glider and all earned their blue wings badge! 🪽 Thank you too 644 VGS for having our cadets and providing them with this unforgettable experience!

LOWLAND LEADER COURSE 🚶‍♂️
Our CWO Brown and Fg Off Pollen took part in the Lowland Leader course in June, adding to their qualifications they can bring back and use on the Squadron!
