Derby Cake Decorating and Sugarcraft Group Derby & District Branch of The British Sugarcraft Guild meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm. Come along and join us, you’ll be very welcome!

We are the Derby and District Branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at Broadway Baptist Church DE22 1BP. Meetings start at 7.30pm with a catch-up and an introduction to the evening's demonstrator. Our demonstrators come from across Britain and we enjoy demonstrations which cover various aspects of cake decorating and sugarcraft from figure modelling to

flower making. If you have an interest in sugarcraft and want to discover new skills, or you wish to brush up on old ones we hope to see you soon! The British Sugarcraft Guild is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of cake decorating and sugarcraft, run by a committee of volunteers elected from the membership. Members include hobby cake makers, home bakers, specialist retailers, manufacturers, and renowned sugarcraft professionals. Established in 1981 by a group of enthusiastic cake decorators who shared a love for the art of sugarcraft and with the motto ‘My craft is my art’, the Guild’s aims are to:
• Promote & Stimulate interest in sugarcraft
• Share Knowledge
• Develop Talent
• Improve Standards

• Annual Membership is open to everyone with an interest in sugarcraft and cake decorating - ranging from the complete novice through to professionals in their field; everyone can benefit from the sharing and learning experience that BSG membership can bring. Options include: Local Branch Member; UK Individual Member; International Member; and Cygnet Member - for under 18's.

• Sugarcraft News: Members receive the quarterly members’ magazine, and can access ‘The Sugarcraft Lounge’, our online community group for members, with monthly video tutorials and online resources.

• Sugarcraft Insurance: UK resident members who sell their cakes, bakes, and sugarcraft, are offered the opportunity to join our special low-cost insurance scheme for public & products liability cover. A selection of cover options are available.

• Local Branches: We arrange sugarcraft demonstrations, have-a-go sessions, and events each month at local branches around the UK. Local Branch meetings offer you the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded people who are similarly passionate about cake decorating and sugarcraft. Meet new friends. Share ideas and skills.

• Activities: The Guild hosts a monthly programme of virtual demonstrations around our Regions. We also organise demonstration days, workshops, residential skills schools, and our own exhibitions, as well as trips to other exhibitions and shows. You will find the BSG at many commercial cake shows where we provide demonstrations and hands-on workshops.

• Training: The Guild offers training schemes (developed over 40 years) and accreditation, to members wishing to specialise in sugarcraft demonstrating and judging.

Hello Sugarcrafters
We had such fun at our December meeting and workshop. We made these wonderful Santa's and Xmas gonks using Terry's Chocolate Oranges/or Marshmallow Krispies. We also had a mini bake sale to raise some funds. We also collected 8 Christmas Cake donations and the majority of these were homemade and beautifully decorated and I'll be taking these to the wonderful local charity Doorways Derby to help vulnerable families. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 everyone and we wish you all the very best for 2026.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 4th February 2026 where we are going back to basics and we will be demonstrating some top tips on how to cover a cake in sugarpaste.

Dear Sugarcrafters,
The Derby Guild hosted the wonderful Karen Davies Sugarcraft on Wed 5th November. We had a fantastic turnout with a total of 29 people which was absolutely brilliant so the posters and marketing we did paid off. Here are some photos from the evening. We certainly had fun and we felt inspired to try new christmas cake themes with the moulds Karen brought with her to sell. Xx
