⚽💙 A VERY PROUD MORNING FOR DERBY DAY SERVICES! 💙⚽

This morning I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Stockbrook Colts 2005 to 2026 who Derby Day Services are incredibly proud to sponsor and today was extra special because the teams got to play in their brand-new shirts!

Seeing the Derby Day Services logo on the shirts, knowing that our sponsorship has helped provide the new kit, was a genuinely proud moment for me. 💜

It was wonderful to meet some of the players, coaches, managers, team captains and goalkeepers and to spend a little time getting to know more about the club and the people behind it.

But what struck me most wasn't just what happens on the football pitch.

I also spent some time in Jenny's Cabin, a fantastic little hub where siblings of the players can spend time while their brothers or sisters are training or playing. It is touches like this that show exactly what Stockbrook Colts 2005 to 2026 is about.

Yes, it's a football club.

But it's also community, inclusion, friendship and belonging.

They haven't forgotten that behind every player there is often a whole family standing on the side lines, and they've worked hard to create somewhere that welcomes everyone.

And THAT is exactly why I'm so pleased that Derby Day Services is supporting them.

We're two very different organisations, but we share something pretty important the belief that people need places where they can belong, make friends, have fun and be part of their community. 💜

So seeing our name on those shirts this morning meant considerably more than simply seeing our logo on a football kit.

We are exceptionally proud to sponsor Stockbrook Colts 2005 to 2026 and to play even a small part in supporting a club that has kept the heart of its community at the centre of everything it does.

Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome this morning.

Now there's just one small problem...

I think I'm going to have to start learning a LOT more about football. 😂⚽

💜 WHAT A THURSDAY AT DERBY DAY SERVICES! 💜

Yesterday was another one of those days that reminds us exactly what our day service is all about – good food, plenty of laughter, trying something new and, most importantly, enjoying the day together.

🍓 We started the morning with a lovely fresh breakfast of fruit, pancakes and yoghurt, with crumpets and toast available for those who fancied something a little more traditional.

Then it was time for our usual morning games before our wonderful OT student took over with some activities she had prepared for everyone.

And we've made a new investment...

📽️ We have a projector!

Obviously, we had to put it straight to work. 😂

We started with Guess the Programme, watching clips from old favourites including The Good Life, Porridge and Only Fools and Horses.

It was wonderful to see how a short television clip could trigger so many memories and conversations – not just remembering the programmes themselves, but talking about where people were, who they watched them with and life at the time. ❤️

We then moved on to some brilliant interactive games designed to get our brains working, followed by movement activities to get our bodies working too!

By then we'd definitely earned lunch...

🍽️ A full roast dinner!

Followed, naturally, by a lovely selection of desserts. Because we take the word full in full-day service very seriously. 😂

🧁 Then came possibly our favourite activity of the day...

Cake decorating!

Everyone learned how to use piping bags, experimenting with different coloured icing and learning how to make flowers and decorations.

The idea was that the finished cakes would be taken home for families to enjoy.

That was the idea.

Quite a few apparently failed to make it out of the building. 😂😂😂

Meanwhile, some of our gentlemen disappeared off for their now-regular game of pool. 🎱 There definitely seems to be a little competition developing there, although we're not naming names just yet!

Another fabulous day of food, friendship, memories, movement, learning, laughter and companionship.

And after the recent temperatures, I think we're ALL rather pleased that things have cooled down a little! ☀️😂

Now we're looking forward to next Thursday...

And we have something rather exciting happening. 👀

We've got two lovely community events coming up at Derby Day Services, so get those diaries out! 💜

🧺 JUMBLE SALE – SATURDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER
⏰ 12pm – 3pm

A proper, good old-fashioned JUMBLE SALE! No fancy stalls, no complicated bits... just plenty of bargains to rummage through and hopefully a few treasures to find! 😂

And obviously there will be tea and cake... because quite frankly, is it even a Derby Day Services event without cake? ☕🍰😂

We will be accepting jumble donations every Thursday, so if you're having a clear-out, please think of us. Clothes, books, household bits, bric-a-brac – all those things you no longer need could help us raise funds.

🎄 CHRISTMAS FAYRE – SATURDAY 12TH DECEMBER 🎄
⏰ 12pm – 4pm

Yes, I know we're talking about Christmas already... sorry! 😂🎅

We're looking for all you wonderful crafters, makers and small local businesses who would like to join us.

Tables are just £5 each, but spaces are already starting to fill, so please get in touch and book yours as soon as possible.

We'll also have our Derby Day Services Christmas Raffle, along with chances to win some other lovely goodies throughout the day. 🎁🎟️

And to all our lovely local folk...

🌞 Keeping Everyone Safe During This Week's Heatwave 🌞

With another period of extreme temperatures forecast this week, we've made a few temporary changes to Thursday's day service to help keep our wonderful clients as safe and comfortable as possible.

Rather than cancelling the day, we've adjusted our transport arrangements so that everyone can enjoy the cooler part of the day before temperatures rise later in the afternoon.

We'll also be making a few changes inside the venue by keeping doors open to improve airflow, ensuring plenty of cold drinks are available throughout the day and adapting our activities so everyone can stay cool whilst still enjoying everything Derby Day Services has to offer.

This week is particularly special as we're celebrating two birthdays, and we're looking forward to marking the occasion with a lovely Afternoon Tea and plenty of smiles. 🎂💜

The health and wellbeing of our clients will always come first, and we will continue to monitor everyone throughout the day. If we feel anyone is struggling with the heat, we will take the appropriate action to ensure they remain safe and comfortable.

Friendship Makes Life Bloom 🌸

What a wonderful day we had at Derby Day Services yesterday as we celebrated International Friendship Day.

The laughter started with our ever popular Sticky Bingo, with one of our wonderful clients taking on the important role of calling the numbers and doing a fantastic job! We also enjoyed a friendship-themed quiz, along with plenty of our favourite games that always bring smiles and laughter.

Lunch was chosen by our clients (as always!) and this week the winner was a firm favourite... fish and chips! 🐟🍟

The afternoon was filled with something for everyone. Some of our gentlemen enjoyed a game of pool, others preferred a quieter game of Connect Four, while Kerplunk made a welcome return and proved just as popular as ever!

Our creative side came out too, with everyone making beautiful photo frames to take home for someone special. We also created our very own Friendship Tree. 🍃

Each leaf represented someone important in our lives and why they mean so much to us. It sparked some lovely conversations, wonderful memories and a few emotional moments too. (You'll notice the names have been blurred in the photographs to protect everyone's privacy.)

Before heading home, each of our clients received a little gift bag with the message:
"Friendship Makes Life Bloom." 💜

Because that's exactly what friendship does.

At Derby Day Services, we believe it's the friendships, laughter, conversations and shared experiences that make every Thursday so special. Yesterday was another reminder that we're building far more than a day service we're building a community where everyone belongs.

Finally, every month we take the opportunity to celebrate one of our incredible volunteers who gives so much of their time to make Derby Day Services the special place it is. This month, we were delighted to recognise the ever-wonderful Avala. To show our appreciation, we presented her with a card, flowers and a gift card. It felt especially fitting to celebrate her on Friendship Day, as her kindness, compassion and friendship brighten the lives of everyone she meets. Thank you, Avala, for everything you do we are so grateful to have you as part of the Derby Day Services family. 💜🌸

🎾 Wimbledon came to Derby Day Services! 🍓

Yesterday was another wonderful day at Derby Day Services as we swapped West End Community Centre Derby for Centre Court!

Our clients enjoyed a fun-filled Wimbledon-themed day complete with strawberries and cream, tennis-themed games, plenty of laughter and, as always, wonderful company.

We were delighted to welcome Adam from Stockbrook Colts 2005 to 2026 who came along to meet everyone. We're really looking forward to supporting such a fantastic local organisation and building another great community partnership.

The day began with some gentle exercises... led by me! Let's just say my tennis outfit probably created more laughter than my exercise routine, but judging by the smiles on everyone's faces, I'd say that was a success!

As the day went on, an impromptu singalong broke out, proving once again that some of the best moments are never planned. After a delicious lunch, some of our clients decorated beautiful handheld fans in preparation for the predicted heatwave next week, while others enjoyed a game of indoor boules, which quickly became a firm favourite.

Before we knew it, it was time to head home. In fact, the day had gone so well that we completely lost track of time.

At Derby Day Services, every activity has a purpose. Behind the games, the decorations and the themed days is something much more important.

For a few precious hours, people stop being defined by a diagnosis and simply enjoy being themselves again. They laugh, make choices, build friendships, share memories and continue to remain the focal point in their own lives.

That's why Derby Day Services exists.

One of the things we love most is bringing our local community through our doors. If you have a hobby, talent or interest you'd be happy to share, whether that's talking about old Derby, singing a few songs, leading some gentle exercise, demonstrating a craft or simply spending time with our clients, we'd love to hear from you. You never know how much a simple visit could mean to someone.

☀️ A little reminder during this hot weather...

With temperatures continuing to rise over the next few days, please remember to check in on family members, neighbours and friends who may be more vulnerable during the heat.

A quick phone call, a visit, a glass of water or simply asking if someone is okay can make a real difference. Please also remember to keep hydrated, stay in the shade where possible and look after yourselves.

As a community, let's all keep an eye on one another. 💜

🏖️🍦 Now for something a little more exciting... tomorrow is Beach Day at Derby Day Services! 🍦🏖️

The buckets and spades are ready...

The beach decorations are up...

The afternoon tea is prepared...

The ice cream van has been booked...

Now all we need is our wonderful clients!

Tomorrow we'll be bringing the seaside to Derby Day Services with a fun-filled Beach Day, complete with seaside games, lots of laughter, a delicious afternoon tea-style lunch, gentle seated exercises with Harris James and, to top it all off, a visit from the ice cream van!

With the extreme temperatures forecast, we've also made the decision to start earlier and finish earlier so everyone can enjoy the day while staying as safe and comfortable as possible.

We're not sure who'll be more excited... our clients or the Derby Day Services team! 🍦😂

Here's to another day of smiles, friendship, making memories and maybe just a little bit of melted ice cream!

Another wonderful Thursday at Derby Day Services! 💜

Yesterday was one of those days that perfectly sums up what Derby Day Services is all about. There wasn't a special theme or event, just good company, plenty of laughter and a room full of people enjoying each other's company.

We were delighted to welcome three lovely new clients, who quickly settled in and became part of the group. It is always so rewarding to see new friendships beginning from the moment people walk through the door.
Lunch was a traditional roast dinner followed by dessert, all freshly prepared for twenty people... which was certainly a challenge in yesterday's heat! Thankfully, it was worth every minute as everyone enjoyed sitting down together for a home-cooked meal.

The afternoon was filled with games, conversation and activities, while others enjoyed a game of snooker or simply relaxed with friends over a cup of tea. Sometimes it is these ordinary days that become the most special.

Yesterday was also a particularly proud day for me personally, as my son Jake came along to help out. Many of you know some of the challenges he has faced over the past couple of years, so seeing him chatting with our clients, lending a hand and being part of the day meant more than I can put into words. I couldn't have been prouder.

We were also joined by Becky's daughter, who has really found volunteering helpful for her own personal journey and our clients truly adore her.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who continues to support Derby Day Services. Thanks to the incredible encouragement from our clients, families and local professionals, we are now preparing for the next exciting chapter. We hope to be able to share some exciting news about expanding the service very soon... so watch this space!

What a fantastic day we had at Derby Day Services on Thursday as we hosted our very own version of the World Cup… and yes, we are delighted to report that England won! 🇬🇧😂

The room was decorated in true World Cup style and everyone got involved, cheering, laughing and enjoying a day full of fun, friendly competition and plenty of smiles.

Lunch was a very traditional British favourite, fish and chips, followed by a delicious trifle for dessert… because no celebration is complete without good food! 😋

During the afternoon, we finished our wonderful bird houses and got creative decorating painted pebbles, while some of the gentlemen enjoyed a game of snooker and pool.

Days like these remind us that it is not just about activities, it is about creating moments, laughter and memories together 💜

What a brilliant day we had yesterday at the Carers Event at Derby Market Hall 💜

It was wonderful to meet so many lovely people, families, carers and professionals, all coming together to share advice, support and information.

We had some fantastic conversations about companionship, dementia friendly support and the importance of helping people stay connected, active and involved in their community. It was lovely to meet so many people, hear their stories and chat about how Derby Day Services may be able to support them and their loved ones.

We were also delighted to raise some money for the wonderful Me & Dee Charity through our hamper raffle, so a huge thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets and supported such an amazing cause 💜

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand to say hello, take information or simply have a chat. Events like this remind us just how important community really is.
