๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ”ต Knife Crime Awareness Week โ€“ Operation SCEPTRE ๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿš”

Supporting Communities is proud to be working alongside Derbyshire Constabulary to raise awareness of knife crime and serious youth violence through the delivery of the Virtual Decisions Programme ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿฅฝ

Using immersive VR technology, young people can experience realistic scenarios and explore the consequences of their choices in a safe and engaging learning environment.
During the sessions, young people have been encouraged to:

๐Ÿ”น Understand the risks and consequences of carrying a knife
๐Ÿ”น Recognise the impact of serious youth violence on individuals, families, and communities
๐Ÿ”น Build confidence to make positive choices and resist peer pressure
๐Ÿ”น Learn where to access support and advice when needed
๐Ÿ”น Strengthen relationships with local police officers and community organisations

๐Ÿค By working together, we can help keep young people safe, reduce violence, and create stronger communities.

๐Ÿ’™ At Supporting Communities we believe that Early Intervention is Prevention.

This week, Supporting Communities is proud to support Operation Sceptre by raising awareness around the impact of knife crime and the importance of early intervention.

A big thank you to Derbyshire Constabulary for visiting our session and speaking with young people about staying safe, making positive choices, and the realities of knife crime.

By working together, we can help create safer communities and better futures for young people.

๐ŸŽ‰ Weโ€™re proud to have completed Year One of our BBC Children in Need funded โ€œMakinโ€™ Itโ€ project, delivered in partnership with McDonald's

Over the last year, Supporting Communities has worked across Derby, Amber Valley & Erewash, delivering detached youth work, mentoring, and family support to young people and families who need it most. ๐Ÿ’™

The impact from Year One has been incredible:
โœ… Detached youth work sessions delivered at McDonaldโ€™s sites - 350+
โœ… Total participant throughput - 5,613 young people engaged
โœ… Youth & family referrals supported - 113
โœ… Hours of group and 1:1 support delivered to young people & families - 1,800+
โœ… Locations worked across Derby, Amber Valley & Erewash - 8

Through this project, we have supported young people to make positive choices, reduce anti-social behaviour, improve wellbeing, build confidence, and access ongoing support and opportunities within their communities. ๐ŸŒŸ

A huge thank you to BBC Children in Need , McDonald's our staff, partners, and the amazing young people and families who have made this project such a success. ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐ŸŽ‰ Thatโ€™s a wrap on our Million Hours Phase 2 project! ๐ŸŽ‰

Over the past 2 years, Supporting Communities has proudly delivered youth work across 4 areas, creating safe spaces, positive opportunities, and meaningful support for young people.

๐Ÿ“Š Project Impact:
โœ… 11,177 total engagements and participant throughput
โœ… 964 hours of youth work delivered
โœ… Delivery across 4 community areas
โœ… Countless positive activities, mentoring sessions, trips, conversations, and life-changing moments

This project has been about much more than numbers. It has been about building relationships, increasing confidence, improving wellbeing, reducing isolation, and giving young people opportunities to thrive within their communities.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our staff, volunteers, partners, and most importantly the young people who made this project such a success.

A special thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund and Department for Culture, Media and Sport for giving us the opportunity to be part of the Million Hours programme and invest in young people and communities through this important work. Your support has helped create lasting positive impact for so many young people.

Although this phase is ending, our commitment to supporting young people and communities continues. ๐Ÿ’™

We had a fantastic time attending the West Park Fun Day alongside Long Eaton SNT! โ˜€๏ธ

It was great to spend the day meeting local families, young people and community members, sharing information about the support and activities we provide, and taking part in such a positive community event.

A big thank you to Long Eaton SNT and everyone involved in organising the day. Events like this are so important in bringing communities together, building relationships and creating opportunities for people to connect.

Weโ€™re proud to share some wonderful feedback from a Local Authority partner about a family weโ€™ve been supporting ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

They highlighted our teamโ€™s compassionate, consistent approach ๐Ÿค and the positive relationships built with both parents and children ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ. Through tailored 1:1 sessions ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ, practical home support ๐Ÿก, and early intervention ๐ŸŒฑ, the family have made real progress, improving routines โฐ, communication ๐Ÿ’ฌ, and creating a more stable home environment โค๏ธ

Partnership working makes such a difference ๐Ÿคฒ and itโ€™s fantastic to see the impact when services come together to support families at the right time ๐Ÿ“

This is why we do what we do, because early intervention is prevention ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’™

Huge well done to our amazing team ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŒŸ Parent Feedback That Means the World to Us ๐ŸŒŸ

We recently received lovely feedback from one of the parents we support, sharing how much our team at Supporting Communities has made a positive difference to their family.

Hearing that our work is helping families feel more supported, confident and connected is exactly why we do what we do. ๐Ÿ’™

At Supporting Communities we believe that early intervention is prevention, and knowing that parents feel listened to, valued and supported reassures us that we are making a meaningful impact.

If you or your family have been supported by us, we would really welcome your feedback. Your reviews not only help us improve, but also show other families what support is available and the difference it can make.
