The Denmead Belles are proud to support the Embracing Age Hampshire initiative, which provides handmade birthday cards to local care home residents who may not receive many visitors or simply appreciate knowing that someone is thinking of them on their special day.
We decided to support 3 care homes local to Denmead and so far, the Belles have created 81 cards for ladies, 17 for gentlemen, and 10 blank cards. We think the blank cards are particularly useful as welcome cards for residents who are new to a home or staying for respite care.
We have thoroughly enjoyed being involved in this project. It has been straightforward and rewarding, and the support from the Belles has been fantastic. Most of the cards are handmade, with a few shop-bought ones included, and each contains a personal message for the resident.
One piece of feedback, in particular, made all our efforts worthwhile. A relative visiting her aunt in a care home discovered one of our cards in her room and took the time to let us know how much it meant. Knowing that such a simple gesture can bring comfort and joy is exactly why we love being part of this initiative.
