Brazil’s Cerrado is disappearing fast – over 1 million km² lost in 50 years. This vital ecosystem underpins South America’s water systems, yet its destruction is closely linked to global demand for soy and beef.
The UK imports millions of tonnes of soy each year, around 90% for livestock feed – directly tying our meat supply chains to this loss.

The NCS Project is working to break this link by supporting more sustainable supply chains and protecting the Cerrado for the future.

Did you know that in 2025, LEAF worked with nearly ALL major UK retailers through LEAF Marque certification? A key highlight was our partnership with Fresh Direct, ensuring all contracted UK fresh produce growers achieved LEAF Marque - expanding trusted certification into food service and hospitality.

This confidence is reflected globally, with the LEAF Marque network growing to 3,235 certified businesses across 55 countries by the end of 2025.

Agriplastics in Practice: Managing Materials, Minimising Waste, Maximising Value 🌱
Our latest LEAF Digs Deeper session explored the vital role agriplastics play in modern farming—alongside the challenges and opportunities in improving their recovery and recycling.

Key takeaways:
• Better sorting, storage, and handling on farm can greatly improve recycling outcomes
• Agriplastics should be seen as a recoverable resource, not just waste
• Farmers face real practical and financial barriers to recycling and disposal
• Collaboration across industry, government, and supply chains is key to scaling solutions

A clear message emerged: we need practical, joined-up approaches that fit real farm operations while supporting a more circular future for agricultural plastics.

We’re delighted to welcome Ian Mace to our Board of Trustees.

Ian brings extensive experience from his role as Head of Government Affairs and Policy at Associated British Foods plc (ABF), leading on key issues such as food security, agriculture, decarbonisation, packaging, and trade policy. Prior to this role, Ian qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG and then held several senior finance roles in ABF.

With a strong background in government relations and post‑Brexit supply chain resilience, Ian’s insight will be a valuable asset to LEAF. We’re really looking forward to his perspective and contribution.
