Is your local council looking to build a fairer, more democratic and more locally rooted economy?

Our Policy Lab Tackling Barriers to Building a Co‑operative Economy is a practical guide for councils who want to grow community‑powered, inclusive local economies.

The report breaks down the real barriers councils face, and offers simple, usable tools to help you:

• support co‑operative and community‑led enterprise
• keep wealth circulating locally
• build stronger partnerships with residents and local organisations
• create the conditions for collaboration, not just competition in local markets

The Policy Lab report was created with local government in mind - led by I love Oldham (Oldham Council) with input from Co-operative Futures, Co-operative & Mutual Solutions , Anthony Collins and Innovation.coop

Congratulations to CMS client The New Clarence in Hull on winning the 2025 CAMRA Pub Saving Award.

We are incredibly proud to have been awarded CAMRA’s Pub Saving Award 2025 for saving The New Clarence 🍻

We never set out to win an award – our goal was simply to save a much-loved community asset that people wanted, needed, and now truly enjoy. To be recognised for all the hard work (a real labour of love) means so much to us, and we are extremely grateful for this award.

TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More ❤️

Since reopening in September, it’s been amazing to see so many people coming through the doors, enjoying The New Clarence, our real ales, and good old-fashioned traditional pub grub. This pub belongs to the community, and we couldn’t have done it without you all. Plus a huge thank you to Co-operatives UK, Plunkett, and HM Government for their invaluable business development support and funding. And of course, a massive thank you to our 525 members

Thank you for the support – here’s to many more great times ahead! 🍺🥧
