Darwen Town Centre We're passionate about improving footfall throughout our town and creating a 'thriving' Darwen. 1. Phil RIley - Executive member for BwDBC regeneration.

PURPOSE

1.1 That key stakeholders and business representatives, with an interest to support the development and growth of Darwen town centre work in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to improve business engagement and deliver a Business Plan for Darwen Town Centre.

2. TERMS OF REFERENCE

2.1 To strengthen relationships with businesses and develop a business focussed plan

to support the future development and sustainability of Darwen Town Centre as a retail and leisure centre.
2.2 To work to improve the customer experience for residents and visitors to Darwen Town Centre.
2.3 To work with the Council to help deliver the growth agenda in Darwen Town Centre and lead on consultation with businesses
2.4 To assist the Council and other agencies and local businesses in attracting private sector investment. John Sturgess - Chairman

🎵Darreners, get ready to Take The Lead! 🎤

Begin2Sing is getting ready to release their second single – and auditions are taking place for soloists to sing lines on the track.

Called ‘Shake Off The Rain’, the second Begin2Sing single is an uplifting, gospel influenced pop song.

Paul Stuart Davies, who runs the Begin2Sing community singing project in Darwen, says:

“The song is about second chances, lifting people through hard times and being there for others. It really resonates with things some of our Begin2Sing community have been dealing with.”

Paul Stuart Davies started Begin2Sing last summer, offering free vocal tuition to Darwen residents with little or no singing experience.

Since then, Paul has been working with around 100 local people at monthly workshops, helping them to learn professional singing techniques and develop the confidence to sing in front of an audience. 🤩

Who remembers the wildfire that affected Darwen moorland back in May 2020? 🔥

Over 300 breeding birds were killed, endangered species were destroyed and the natural habitats for other species were also devastated. 😢

No one wants to see that happen again – including us.

That’s why we’re reminding everyone of the legal powers we have to restrict activities on moorland that carry a significant risk of causing wildfires.

These powers are called a Public Space Protection Order – or PSPO for short – and we have one in place for parts of parts of Darwen, Bolton and Chorley, in partnership with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (Official), Bolton Council and Chorley Council.

The PSPO bans things like:

🔥 lighting barbeques

🔥 building or lighting campfires or camping stoves

🔥 lighting fireworks

🔥 and setting off night-sky paper lanterns.

Anyone doing these things will be breaching the PSPO – that’s a criminal offence and could land them a fine of up to £1,000. 💷

Please, work with us to protect our local moorland by behaving responsibly in the current heatwave.

This Sunday sees the return of the ever popular Festival of Brass by Blackburn & Darwen Band! 🎉🎺

Join us as Blackburn & Darwen Band proudly hosts the 11th Annual Festival of Brass on Darwen Market Square. This celebration of musical excellence has become a highly anticipated event in the brass banding calendar that attracts brass bands from across the region and beyond, plus plenty of supporters and spectators.

⭐📢 Free event in Darwen Town Centre this Saturday! 📢⭐

🚌 100 Years of Darwen’s Motorbuses Running Day 🚌

Join us in celebrating the Centenary of Darwen Corporation Transport’s first motorbus service! 🎉

This vintage bus Running Day will feature a selection of vehicles from the Darwen Transport Museum Trust collection along with some visiting vehicles from partner heritage organisations, such as Ribble Motor Services, Yelloway Motor Services and Bolton Corporation.

A network of free bus services will operate between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 20th June from Darwen Circus, and there will also be a display of vehicles in the market square 🚍

Darwen Heritage Centre will be also hosting a photographic display featuring the history of Darwen’s transport 🖼

This is as day that appeals to all generations, whether you have fond memories of these buses, or whether you're a young transport enthusiast! 😄 We'd like to thank the volunteers from these organisations for organising the event.
