🚧 Viaduct & Wentedge Road Bridge Update: Reopening of A1 in both directions 🚧

We’re approaching the final stages of the A1 improvement scheme at Wentbridge Viaduct and Wentedge Road Bridge.

We’re now able to share the next planned steps towards removing the traffic management from both carriageways and reopening the A1 in both directions.

📅 Northbound closures
• Overnight, 8pm–6am
• From 24–29 November
• Between Barnsdale Bar and Ferrybridge

➡️ This will allow us to remove all traffic management and the 50mph speed limit by the morning of 30 November.

📅 Southbound closures
• Overnight, 8pm–6am
• From 1–6 December
• Between Ferrybridge and Barnsdale Bar

➡️ By the morning of 7 December, the A1 is due to be fully reopened in both directions and these long-running roadworks complete.

We sincerely apologise for the disruption these works have caused and thank you for your patience and support throughout.

Remembrance Sunday is a significant occasion where we proudly pay tribute to the courageous individuals who have defended our freedom and ensured our way of life.

In recognition of this day, Darrington Parish Council has laid wreaths at the War Memorial in St Luke's Church's graveyard and the Chapel Hill Memorial Plaque.

Together, we honour their sacrifices with profound respect and heartfelt gratitude.

Did you know that Darrington has its own post office?

It's open on Monday mornings at the Reading Rooms, but is under threat of closure due to lack of footfall. The Post Office is able to provide most of the services that other post offices provide, except passport renewals or foreign currency exchange.

A Post Office sign was previously put up in the village but unfortunately we no longer have the sign, which means that newer residents are probably not aware that it is still operating.

A decision to keep or close the Post Office is expected to be taken in a few months' time and, for it to stay open and continue to provide its valuable services to the village there needs to be an increase of at least 5 more people using it on regular basis.

So please, help us keep the Darrington Post Office open by supporting it on a Monday morning at the Reading Room! 📮
