FREE Men's Group-Next session Wed 24th June
Get creative with us this month at Old Dogs New Tricks Men’s Club
as we make beautiful mosaics. Whether you’d like to create your house number, or simply design a nice pattern, we’ll provide everything you need to get started.

You’ll also receive grout to take home so you can complete your project.

Feel free to bring along any special pieces you’d like to include in your design — broken china looks especially lovely, as do beads, sea glass, pebbles, or you might want to bring some ceramic numbers or you can make your own numbers to personalise your creation.

Come along, get inspired, and enjoy a relaxing, creative session!

This group is made possible thanks to and the Enriching Later Lives Fund. The aim is to create a relaxed space where men can get together, try new hobbies, share a laugh, and maybe even pick up a new skill or two to carry into later life.

This group is still a blank canvas — we’ll shape future sessions around what you’re interested in.

The group is free for men aged 40+ held at Blackwell Meadows, Grange Road, Darlington. Wed, 24 June, 19:00–21:00

Coming soon to Rise & Bloom
will be running this popular Lampshade workshop on Sun, 12 July, 12:30–16:30 at Bloom Cottage in Hurworth.

Working from hundreds of beautifully curated, nature-inspired vintage motifs, you will create your own unique fabric design, print it onto specialist lightbox-effect satin fabric, and make it into a professionally finished lampshade to take home.
Gillian will guide you step by step, helping you build a balanced and visually striking design using colour, composition, scale and layout. The lightbox-effect fabric shows the full colour saturation of your design when the lampshade is lit, making the colours rich, vibrant and beautifully glowing.
Once your fabric has been printed, you will learn how to turn it into a finished lampshade using a professional construction method.

You will leave with:
• A lampshade designed, printed and made by you
• Practical design and composition skills
• An understanding of fabric printing for interiors
• Confidence in a professional lampshade-making method

For a small additional fee, there is also the option to upgrade to a complete table lamp with light fitting, ready to switch on at home.
All materials are provided, including your lampshade frame, printed fabric, making materials and full access to Gillian’s extensive motif library.

🕯️ wooden candle block decoupage
Thanks to Betty's Interiors for hosting these lovely session. Some amazing feedback from last night at Northallerton and a very popular session. Everyone left with something to treasure and with an extra craft under their belts.

Ingleby Barwick silvers
I was thrilled to be popping over to the Ingleby Barwick silvers today with Kate to cover for our lovely Hayley who is away and we received such a warm welcome from the ladies.
They made these beautiful wool hearts which were such an easy craft meaning ladies also had chance to chat and catch up with little stress.
Point North funding and The National Lottery Community fund keep our free silvers groups running. The ladies who join us are all over 60 and enriching their lives after feeling loss, isolation or enlarging a slightly smaller bubble with the need of more connections.

We will be back at Festival of Thrift this year and have some fabric jewellery drop in sessions going on.
This event is an amazing yearly event that celebrates all things eco, small businesses and growth within the community. So much to see and do!

Gem trees 🌳
Barnard castle had Gill over to make these Bristol gem trees last week. Selections of chipped gems and wire supplied with easy to follow instructions so anyone could make these lovely decorations.

Finished with a silver charm and ready to hang in a window or car.

Bedale- Resin
We had a lovely evening at Bedale on Wed this week, designing, measuring, mixing and creating some chemical reactions (with PPE and proper technique of course) to pour and make these lovely resin coasters.
Each individually unique to the member or guest! I’ve taken them home to cure and they will be returned at our July meeting.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Clothes Swap (Swish) event and to the wonderful Ruth from Ecologico for her inspiring and informative talk.

We’re sure everyone took away something valuable, whether it was tips on buying and selling through preloved platforms or a deeper understanding of why reusing and re loving our clothes is so important for the environment.

Thanks to all our fantastic swishers, there was a fabulous selection of clothing to browse, and we think everyone went home with something new to love and try!

This event was part of the Bloom in Life project, funded by Point North , and we’re grateful for their support in helping us bring our community together to learn, share and make more sustainable choices.
