Saturday 5th September
WORKSHOP 1.00-4.00pm
Assisi Work Requirements List to bring with you
Pattern: Little Bird (will be provided)
Materials:
* 1 skein of red six-stranded cotton (for the background)
* 1 skein of black six-stranded cotton (for the outlining)
These are both traditional colour choices, but if the attendees would prefer, then they may alternatively bring along a pale shade (background) and a dark shade (outlining) of the same colour to use instead. Variegated/space-dyed threads work well for the background, if preferred
* An 8" (20cm) square of even-weave fabric
On 12cpi Aida, the little bird pattern comes out at 4" (10cm) square (including all the twiddly bits of the outlining)
Any count of Aida fabric works nicely, as does 22 cpi Hardanger fabric, although the size of the design will vary (in general, the higher the thread count, the smaller the finished piece)
* Tapestry needles
* Contrasting sewing (tacking) thread (for marking the centre of the design)
* Embroidery scissors
* Optional: an embroidery hoop or frame, sized to fit the square of fabric
If the attendees are intending to use an embroidery hoop, then they need to make sure that it fits the size of their fabric and that there is enough room inside to comfortably work the pattern as well. So, if using 12 cpi Aida, then a 6” (15cm) hoop should be fine
Because of its size, the pattern can easily be worked in the hand outside of a hoop or frame, although the attendees may wish to bind the edges of their fabric with masking tape to prevent snagging and fraying
