The Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway is a heritage railway project located 6 miles north of Llanelli in west Wales, UK. The route of the original railway is recognised as Britain's first operating public railway authorised by the Act of Parliament in 1802 and which began traffic in May 1803 as the Carmarthenshire Tramroad. The railway opens on selected days throughout the year and offers standard ga

uge train rides over half a mile of running line (to be extended gradually as funds allow). The railway currently owns a variety of rolling stock including diesel locomotives and diesel multiple units. Other organisations such as the Cab Yard, the London Transport Traction Group, the Class 315 Preservation Society and the Suburban Electric Railway Association are also present at the railway and are playing an active part in the railways future plans, with their assets being incorporated into future attractions. The project is also looking to utilise the natural beauty of the area, including development of the woodland area for nature related activities. Just liking this page makes a huge difference in promoting us, but you can also help in many other ways:

1. Volunteer with us - We have a range of projects that require all different types of skills and not just railway skills and knowledge.
2. Becoming a member - Joining our membership scheme allows you to financially assist us from afar.

We are delighted to say that we can now offer fantastic fresh coffee from our newly installed professional coffee machine, alongside our usual offering of tasty food.

📣 Looking for something different to do tomorrow? Come and visit us at Cynheidre, just 6 miles from Llanelli at the site of the former Cynehidre Colliery, SA15 5DQ.

🚃🎟☕ We will be running our quirky military railcar No. AD9117 'Diana' from 10am until 3pm over our running line. That's not all, our Caffi SuperSprinter Café, Cynheidre will be open and our Class 442 CabSim will be available for drop in session slots.
