The WIZO Margaret Thatcher Day Care Center was opened in November 1992 in Sderot, inaugurated by then-British Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher. It was the first WIZO Day Care Center in Sderot.
In 2007, when the people of Sderot found themselves under constant rocket fire, it changed its status to become The Margaret Thatcher Open House Center for the benefit of the Children, Parents, and Educational Staff.
The center became an ‘open house’ offering vital therapies and counseling to Sderot residents to help them cope with the adverse psychological effects, anxieties, and distress caused by ongoing rocket attacks.
In 2016, the Margaret Thatcher Open House Center was hit by mortar fire from Gaza causing considerable damage to the building.
The center has treated and continues to treat countless traumatized citizens, strengthening their resilience to cope with the reality of living under fire.
In 2006, WIZO built the very first rocket-proof day care center in Sderot. Today WIZO has three rocket-proof day care centers in Sderot.
