Shire Housing Association Limited Great Homes, Great People, Vibrant Communities Formed in 1997, Shire Housing was set up to take former "public" housing into local ownership and control.

Motivated by community members we are still directed by a voluntary board of management - a number of whom have been active since inception. We are a not for profit organisation with charitable status and exist to provide high quality housing and associated services in an efficient and friendly way. Initially we took ownership of some 1100 houses. Since that time we have invested around £9m in our housing stock. With the support of the Scottish Government and East Ayrshire Council we have been able to supplement the stock base with a range of new and refurbished properties. We also work closely with East Ayrshire Council in the management and delivery of the Care and Repair service across East Ayrshire. Locally based and controlled, we are sensitive to the needs of the communities we serve and we work hard to deliver quality and value. Our quality standards have been recognised by the achievement of Investors in People and Customer Service Excellence status. Value is more subjective. We work continuously to demonstrate and test our approach - through comparing our performance with other registered social landlords, through surveys and consultative events and full and proper accounting. We welcome feedback and specifically aim to promote a range of techniques to enable people to give us their views on our performance. We plan our work on the basis of 30 year cash flows, balancing income (rents) and expenditure (repayment of loans, investment in stock and running costs) to ensure that Shire Housing can progress and prosper as a sustainable local social enterprise. Whilst our business focus is housing, we know that a range of other local services are essential to ensure quality of life for our customers. We therefore work closely with others, building relationships and strategic partnerships to maximise local benefits. We have worked hard to get where we are today and are mindful of a changing policy environment. As we go forward we are determined to be purposeful in our business focus and fit for purpose - adapting to change and building on success.

Afternoon folks, Alan here.

I was in Hurlford today, with East Ayrshire Care & Repair, at the weekly Age Concern community event.

It was busy as ever. I’ve said before, it’s the best attended Age Concern group in the whole of Scotland…I love that. 🤩

There were a few services there, promoting who they are and what they can do. We were promoting Care & Repair.

But Shire had also given us a few items to raffle off, in a free to enter raffle. ❤️

We had an air-fryer, a Teddy Fleece duvet set and a 1L quick boil kettle. Almost everyone there entered.

Congratulations to the winners. 🙌

Further to our post regarding bogus callers in the Patna area yesterday, we have now been informed that Simply Diligent were in fact in the area. Unfortunately, we had not been made aware of this by the contractor. Apologies for any upset that this confusion has caused, however, it is worthwhile to remind everyone to always ask for ID before allowing anyone into your home and if in doubt call our office.

We recently made a donation to Borland Trout Fishery / Cumnock Angling Club, to buy rods so that kids could go along and have lessons at the Fishery. I was there this evening on totally unrelated business and it just so happened that one of the lessons was about to begin. ❤️

We have been made aware of a bogus caller operating in the Patna area. The information we have is that they are asking for access to properties for five minutes to carry out a risk assessment on behalf of Shire Housing Association in relation to kitchen and bathroom work. We have not instructed any company to carry out surveys on our behalf in relation to this type of work. We believe that the person concerned is showing a piece of paper with the Shire logo on it as proof of identity. All of our contractors carry ID badges and know to show these before asking to enter your property. Please ask to see ID before letting anyone into your home and report any suspicious activity to the Police.

I’m in Patna today with The Nest Wellbeing Group - Cumnock, we’ve been working in one of our tenants gardens.

Val had contacted me to see if I knew of anyone who could help her as she’s no longer healthy enough to undertake suck a task.

Up step the heroes who don’t wear capes, although they’re silly enough to do so, and I met a team from the Nest in Patna first thing.

Weeds lifted, chips moved and relocated, wood bark put down, rubbish binned - they even tidied up a green space on Dalharco Av. ❤️

What a wonderful days work! I’m now off to enjoy Loch Doon and the Nest team are away to help people with other gardens in a couple of EA villages - what a team. 🤩🙌🤩

I’ve just been at the Trotters building in New Cumnock, which has undergone a PHENOMENAL transformation.

Today was the official opening of this fantastic, newly refurbished community space.

It’s the new headquarters for New Cumnock Development Trust, there’s a fantastic cafe, a soon to open community shop and lots of rentable space - it really is a great building. 🤩

I was with New Cumnock Development Trust and an organisation called Froglife on Tuesday there.

Froglife is a national wildlife conservation charity focused on the conservation of the UK’s reptile and amphibian species and their associated habitats.

They have a project on the go: Coalfield to Wildspace. It’s taking place across South Lanarkshire, The Lothians and here in Ayrshire.

They’re creating, restoring and connecting ponds and wildlife habitats across 14 sites.

Anyone can get involved in FREE activities for all ages.

There’s nature trails, performance art, nature garden training, wildlife gardening workshops and much more besides.
