Community projects and organisations in East Ayrshire have been urged to apply for the annual round of grants from the Drongan and Ochiltree Green Community Fund, which is now open.

Coylton Greener Grid Park, currently under construction, provides a fund of £20,000 per year, specifically focussed on projects that deliver energy efficiency and environmental projects. All projects must be located in or delivered to benefit communities within 5km of the development, located at KA6 6NF.

The fund is independently administered through GrantScape, a leading UK community fund administrator, on behalf of Statkraft. The closing date for 2026’s applications is 15 April 2026.

Did you know that emergency power cuts are only implemented to protect the electricity network from more damage? ⚡

If there isn’t enough electricity to power every home and business in Britain at the same time, the Electricity System Operator (National Grid ESO) – which is responsible for ensuring there is enough power to meet demand – could instruct the companies which operate the local power network to reduce electricity demand through emergency power cuts. ℹ️

But, it’s important to know that before any emergency planned power cuts take place, the National Grid ESO undertakes a ‘winter outlook’ every year which helps to inform the electricity industry and prepare for the winter ahead. ℹ️

Visit SP Energy Networks webpage on emergency power cuts for more information, via the link in the comments. 🔗
