Bee Friendly Cubbington

Bee Friendly Cubbington Working to improve habitats and biodiversity for pollinators in our village To campaign for Cubbington to become a 'Bee Town'.

Bee Friendly Cubbington was set up inspired by Bee Friendly Kenilworth who started when a group of like minded people got together over Zoom in May 2020 to discuss biodiversity. We want to increase biodiversity for all pollinators but thought bees were a good start. We want to build on the good work of existing local groups and are inspired by groups like Bee Friendly Monmouth and The Bee Friendly

Trust. Our aims are:
To improve the biodiversity of Cubbington by making the town Bee Friendly - to include all pollinators. To form partnerships with other organisations which share our aims
To encourage people to have areas left wild in their gardens. To facilitate this by publishing lists of suitable plants and other gardening advice
To get support from WDC to allow people to 'take over' the verges outside their houses to allow wildflowers to grow, and to allow residents to volunteer to co-manage green spaces near their houses. To encourage local authorities to leave more wildflower areas on main roads, roundabouts etc. To promote No Mow May and other schemes to reduce mowing as promoted by Plantlife and other national charities
To engage with local schools to promote biodiversity. We need to consider consistent signage so are currently using the blue heart of the bluecampaignhub.com.

Celebrate the autumnal season by making sure to πŸ‚πŸ‚

It has been by shown by studies to have multiple advantages particularly for wildlife, including:

1. Helping plants and grass to survive during the colder months by providing extra insulation to the plants root systems.
2. Providing a habitat for adult butterflies, caterpillars and eggs such as Commas, Brimstones and Peacocks.
3. Providing a habitat for queen bees to hibernate over winter as they dig into small holes in the ground with leaf litter above often providing insulation and protection from the elements for them.

This winter, let your garden go a little wild! By leaving leaf litter on the ground, you’re creating a cosy haven for local wildlife.
