We want to share important guidance on online safety because, while social media plays a significant role in young people’s lives, offering ways to connect, learn, and express themselves it also comes with risks including exposure to harmful content, online bullying, peer pressure, and the dangers of sharing personal information.
At Legacy, we want to support our young people to make positive choices online and have recently noticed some trends in how young people are behaving online that highlight the importance of ongoing conversations about digital safety.
What can you do to help protect your child online?
✅ Talk to your child about what they do online and who they chat with.
🔍 Check privacy settings to keep their information secure.
🤔 Encourage smart choices – If something feels wrong, it probably is!
Some things for your child to be aware of: -
🚨 Strangers online – Not everyone is who they say they are. Always be careful when chatting with people you don’t know in real life.
📣 Sharing too much – Personal details like your full name, school, or address should be kept private!
💔 Mean comments & bullying – If someone is being unkind, tell a trusted adult right away.
⚠️ Risky trends & challenges – Not everything you see online is safe to try. If you're unsure, ask an adult.
To support this we are planning to implement phone-free zones and deliver workshops in online safety.
If you ever need advice or have concerns, we’re here to help.
