Water voles were once a familiar sight along our rivers, now they're one of the UK's fastest-declining mammals.

After 5 years of habitat restoration on the Combesgate catchment, including planting 26,000 trees, sowing 15 hectares of wildflowers, and rewetting 1,700 metres of land, the right conditions have been created for their return.

With no nearby populations, water voles can’t return to North Devon without some help - so we’ve been working with Derek Gow Consultancy on planned reintroductions to bring them back.

These small mammals play an important role in shaping healthy ecosystems. They shape riverbanks, create burrows used by other wildlife, and through grazing on grasses and rushes, make space for rare, outcompeted plants to grow. We're looking forward to seeing them return - stay tuned to find out more. 🌿

This work has been made possible through working in partnership with North Devon Coast National Landscape and FiPL funding.

Who needs a five-star hotel when you can sleep under a million stars? ✨ We’re excited to see Cloud Farm Campsite featured in Sian Lewis’s new book Under the Stars.

We may be a little biased, but located on Exmoor with some of the darkest skies in the UK, it truly is one of the best places to stargaze. 🌌

Whether you prefer cosy pods (including dog-friendly options), campervan pitches, or tent camping, Cloud Farm campsite is open for bookings this summer.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our family fun day at Lorna Doone last Wednesday 💚

It was a great day filled with crown-making, origami rabbits, painting, storytelling and more. We were also joined by Sonia Kemp, who created some amazing face and body art inspired by native wildlife 🦊🎨

The day formed part of our celebrations of the reintroduction of the pine marten to the South West. Find out more about this project here: https://twomoorspinemartens.org/

While out and about in North Devon please remember to be tick aware 💚

Here are some ways you can help keep yourself safe while enjoying the outdoors:
- Stick to clearly defined paths and avoid long grass
- Wear long trousers
- Use insect repellent
- Regularly check for ticks

Ticks are tiny spider-like creatures that attach themselves to animals and sometimes people to feed. If you spot a tick, they should be removed using a tick removal tool or fine tipped tweezers, as soon as possible.

If you’ve been bitten or have recently spent time outdoors and develop an unusual rash or start to feel unwell, contact your GP.

We are sharing this advice as some tick bites may result in an infection called Lyme Disease. Learn more at the Lyme Resource Centre here: https://www.lymeresourcecentre.com/about-ticks

To celebrate our Riverlands project, we teamed up with storyteller and place-based writer Katy Lee and photographer Vince Large from Courage Copse Creative CIC to deliver creative sessions with nine men from the Amber Foundation.

Exploring Heddon Valley and West Challacombe, they learnt about river restoration and its role in wetland creation, flood prevention and boosting biodiversity. As they walked the rivers and took in the landscape, they captured their thoughts, words, photos and ideas - imagining what a future river, returned to its dynamic state, might look like.

Their exhibition, created with the wonderful Katy and Vince, is now on display in the Heddon Valley Welcome Hub. It’s truly beautiful and well worth stopping by for a look 💚
