🎬 APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN! 🎬

Are you aged 16–19, or 20–25 with an EHCP, and interested in film, TV or the creative industries?

Then this could be your chance to get hands-on experience behind the scenes! 🎥

The BFI Film Academy North East Hub – Introductory Course, delivered in County Durham by Jack Drum Arts, is a FREE 10-day course designed to help young people explore the exciting world of screen.

You’ll learn from experienced North East film & TV professionals and get practical experience in:

🎬 Scriptwriting
🎥 Producing
🎞️ Directing
📹 Cinematography
✨ Special Effects
✂️ Editing

You will put your new skills into practice as part of a film crew, creating your own short films and have the opportunity to see your work on the big screen next year!

Whether you are already thinking of working in film or you’re simply curious about what a career in the creative industries could look like, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn new skills, meet other young creatives and build your confidence.

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that Jack Drum Arts has been awarded three years of funding from Youth Music through the Catalyser Fund for our new programme, Amped Up! 🙌

This one means a LOT to us. ❤️ After a run of funding applications that didn’t go our way, we’re incredibly grateful to Youth Music for believing in our work and investing in what we do with children and young people.

Over the next three years, Amped Up will build on more than 15 years of our award-winning work helping young people learn, create and love music, while supporting them to take their first steps towards opportunities in the music industry.

🎸 Music-making for ages 8–18
🎤 Progression opportunities for 16–25 year olds
🥁 Inclusive opportunities for d/Deaf and/or disabled young people
🎧 A focus on those who face barriers to getting involved
❤️ Building confidence, connection and a sense of belonging
🌱 Supporting young people in our underserved rural communities

We know that things like transport, financial hardship, isolation, poor mental health, neurodivergence and additional needs can all create barriers to accessing music and creative opportunities.

Amped Up is about helping to change that.

We’ll build on the work we already do while creating new opportunities for young people to make music, develop skills, connect with others and explore where music might take them.

A proper Northern, proud-as-punch moment! 💚

Jack Drum Arts has been nominated for Youth Music’s ‘Outstanding Project Award’! 🎉

Our Growing Green programme puts young people right at the heart of everything we do — giving them the opportunity to find their voice, develop their skills, build confidence and, most importantly, have fun making music.

From 1-to-1 sessions and samba bands, to rock bands and our Youth Leadership Programme, it’s a programme with young people, not just for young people.

We couldn’t be prouder of our young people, our incredible team and everyone who makes Growing Green possible.

Here’s hoping for a little bit of Northern magic! 🤞💚🎶

After a week packed with celebrations and taster sessions, we wrapped up our 40th birthday celebrations in style 🎉.

A fantastic day filled with fun helped along by our crazy French chefs, music and dancing, celebrating the incredible home-grown talent that makes Jack Drum Arts so special ❤️🥁💃🪗. With music from our Ukulele Ensemble, Runaway Samba, AG/ED, Jazzy Dystopia , Backbeat Samba and Joe and the other one (2 on this occasion) we topped it all off with the fabulous Wear'd Aliens who provided the soundtrack for a proper foot-stomping ceilidh.

It was cakes galore last week as we celebrated our 40th birthday 🎉🧁

There's still time to grab the hottest tickets in town for our fabulous and lively community ceilidh on Sat 15th August.
There'll be live music from the brilliant Wear'd Aliens, a licenced bar and loads of brilliant people of all ages to laugh and have fun with, so get ready to dance yourself to delirium.
