We had a fabulous time at the Bristol Encontro in April this year showcasing our Nordestinos music with our team of musicians from across our various bands including our young musicians, many of whom had the privilege to take part in Global Grooves - Manchester Future Leaders programme.

Our carnival programme would certainly not be what is today without the input of the talented young people who had the opportunity to immerse themselves in carnival culture through the amazing opportunities they experienced at Future Leaders.

We’re super proud of all of them and immensely grateful to Global Grooves for delivering such an inspiring life changing programme.

What an incredible day we had at Durham Pride last weekend!

Now that we’ve all had a moment to recover, we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Disco Bloco such a joyful part of the day — whether as a performer, puppeteer, volunteer, or as part of the public lining the streets or joining us down at the Sands after the parade.

The atmosphere throughout the day was amazing: so many smiling faces, people dancing with us, cheering us on, taking photos, and celebrating side by side. It was a real privilege to bring the Disco Samba Bloco to the streets of Durham and to be part of a celebration of Pride month.

We’ve had such lovely feedback from members of the public, organisers and fellow performers, and it’s clear the music and energy added something special to the day.

Most of all, what stood out was the sense of community, inclusion and togetherness — a reminder of how important Pride is, and how powerful it is when people come together to celebrate openly and joyfully.

Events like this don’t happen by accident. They take commitment, creativity, teamwork and care from so many people, both on and off the day so a big shout out to the Durham Pride UK team especially Mel for going the extra mile.

Thank you to everyone who brought their energy, talent and generosity — it was a real privilege to share the day with you all, and we hope we get to do it all again soon.
