Yellow and Green
Should definitely be seen!

The village green is looking tickety boo after the recent 'shear' hard work by friend of this group, volunteer Craig, made it trim and prim.

The bright Eastertime daffodils are really standing out now.

Let's hope their golden trumpets match bright sunshine this Easter, despite the bit of wind that's forecast!

News of our nature projects have been highlighted in a recent blog by Scottish Pollinators. Our regular followers will recognise our endeavours and the photos in this article. It's a great summary of our joint efforts with the school and the local community with support from the Council and related groups.

Hopefully you will enjoy learning about the other projects highlighted in the blog too.

Lined up, rounded up, cheering up

We hope that the sight and fragrance of the daffodils in full bloom, lining our roadsides and brightening the different corners of the village, help uplift the spirits of visitors, passersby and residents alike.

We selected and planted a range of varieties and sizes in recent times and they have rewarded us with ample healthy blooms each season since.

We teamed up with members of the church this afternoon, planting heritage snowdrops for next winter in the old and new graveyards.

We were joined by volunteers older and younger and were lucky to enjoy another bright sunny day, though the wind was a little chilly. We were warmed up with tea and biscuits served in the church hall before continuing.

All 3000 bulbs were planted in 2 hours by this hardworking team.

Crook and Drum Growing Together will be planting them with help from church members tomorrow afternoon (Sunday) from 2 pm.

Please join us if you can help. Bring a spade or trowel and gloves.

Tea will be available in the hall.

We hope you are enjoying all the snowdrops looking magnificent in gardens and verges around the village. You can see them on the Green, Drum triangle, behind the community orchard, and newly planted last year in the pollinator bed, and at the entrance to the school. Some of these were donated by the Tayside Biodiversity group, and we will be receiving more to plant in the church and graveyards soon, funded by the Nature Restoration Fund via PKC.

We also planted thousands of daffodils suitable for pollinators around Crook and Drum in the autumn, some in the Grow Wild long grass areas. So look out for some golden spring days soon!

Snow-ly but surely

Remember the 1000 or so native snowdrop bulbs we provided on behalf of Tayside Biodiversity for all the primary school pupils to plant last year? Here they are looking great around the base of the trees and in the bed at the entrance to the car park. Some are still yet shy but it promises to be an impressive display.

Spring Bulb Prepping

We were lucky to have a sunny morning to plant bulbs in the Grow Wild areas around the village. Daffodils and others donated by the Nature Restoration Fund, were planted with help from Claire and Chris from PKC Greenspace team with a turf cutter. More to go in around the village, and at the school. Looking forward to the spring! 🐝🌼🌷
