As one year ends and another begins, weāre reminded that Scouting, like life, is shaped by meetings and partings, endings, and new beginnings. Some chapters close quietly; others open with excitement whilst others still present a little uncertainty. All of them matter. We said a sad goodbye to those that āwent homeā as well as welcoming new volunteers.
The start of a new year gives us permission to pauseāto rest, to reflect, and to take stock. To recognise what has gone well, to be honest about the challenges weāve faced, and to appreciate just how much has been achieved, often in ways that arenāt immediately visible. Every session run, every young person encouraged, every moment of patience or kindness counts. This is also a chance to keep doing what we do best, while gently improving what didnāt quite work. To learn new skills, to adapt the ones we already have, and to respond to the constant change around us with confidence rather than doubt. Scouting has always thrived because of its ability to evolve while staying true to its values. Above all, as we step into the year ahead, itās worth remembering this: āwe are good enoughā. We donāt have to do everything, or do it perfectly, to make a difference. Simply by showing up, giving our time, and caring as we do, we change livesāevery single day.
Thank you for all that you give, often quietly and without expectation. May the year ahead bring renewed energy, fresh beginnings, and the reassurance that what you do truly matters. May we count our blessing and riches in all those we knew, those that we currently know and those who we have yet to meet.
With thanks and best wishes for the year ahead,
Tim Rowe (County Chair of Trustees)
Shirley Sinclair (County Lead Volunteer)
