Over the summer the team have 'carried on regardless'. New fencing is being installed and two new metal gates are in place. Both sides of the aqueduct have been dredged, which means we can see more clearly what renovation is required.

In spite of the very hot weather the team have 'carried on regardless'. We have started replacing all the old fencing with smart looking square post and rails, and have already installed two new metal gates. Both side of the aqueduct have been dredged. This allows for much easier inspection to see what renovation is required. All the normal tasks have continued, although grass cutting was not necessary (no doubt the recent heavy rain will soon have back to normal).

The team of volunteers at the Basin are doing a magnificent job, so when I saw an email from one of the Work Party Organisers congratulating his ‘Skeleton Crew’ on their efforts I assumed that he was referring to them.
But on searching the web I discovered his secret army………

It's back again !
HEMLOCK has re-appeared again on the towpath near to the old aqueduct site near the River Churn.
It was reported last year to Wiltshire Council who are responciple for the path and they took no action.
It's been reported again.
If you want to check for any progress then qoute Case No. 00606788.
In the meantime - walkers take care!

The footpath past the east side of the aqueduct has been greatly improved recently, and we have installed some new, sturdy safety fencing alongside the large collecting pond. Similiar fencing will be used to replace the existing around the other areas of the site which have deteriorated over the years. Out thanks to David for his expert advice and the use of his hole borer (which kept Paul busy).

Wednesday 10th. The weather at the Basin was dry and, at times, sunny, allowing the team to carry with the work on the lock wing walls. They are currently replacing some of the large coping stones including the one that held the hinge fixing for the lock gate.
The flooding has returned after what seems a very short dry period, but it did allow time the Basin etc to get its late cutting, preparing for next years wild flowers to burst forth.
The water level under the aqueduct is high and will no doubt rise even more as winter progress's.
The new aqueduct by Weymoor Bridge is nearly complete and is filled with water giving a glimpse of things to come.
