Thank you to everybody who came to our event this afternoon. We hope you enjoyed maybe learning some things you didn't know about our ancient building, chatting and, of course, sampling some cake. We're very grateful to those who baked such a variety of naughtiness!

Today's the day! 2-4pm. We'll be there and hope you will be too.

If you are able to come along to the church between 2 and 4pm, on Saturday 9th, you can see and hear lots of things about St. Margaret's. We will explain what has been done, what is about to be done - and the next major project. Hope to see you then.

In May 2012 we held a service of thanksgiving for the completion of the work. We didn't rest on our laurels, however, as there was so much else to be done. We started thinking about the difficulties of using what was laughingly called the kitchen and ear-marked creating a new servery as a project. Meanwhile, we funded new lights for the building as the others were impossible to reach, together with new heaters. We also paid to remedy falls of plaster from the ceiling, to carry out repairs to the roof and to electrify the clock=winding mechanism. The winding had previously been carried out weekly by a rota of dedicated men, a hazardous procedure!

The work finally started in May 2011.It wasn't all plain sailing. The original builders went out of business part-way through, causing extra delay and expense. At last the work was completed and a few hardy souls climbed the scaffolding to the top on a very misty November day. Unfortunately,, just 6 days before the scaffolding was removed we suffered a lead theft from the roof. The insurance company would not pay out because we had scaffolding! Another £6,000 bill.

By 2010 we were able to apply to (at that time) English Heritage. We hoped they would fund work on the tower and one window. After an inspection they offered to fund 3 more windows, but only on condition that we raised a considerable sum ourselves in the next 12-18 months - huge pressure but somehow we did it. Thanks are due to many charities, large and small, plus local businesses and individuals.

We made a huge effort to raise money, with concerts, a Light for a Loved One, and a pudding night to name but a few.

Before we could start applying for grants we had to show that we were making an effort to raise money. The 100 Club was begun in August 2006 and Ann Ward still runs it.

This May's winners are
1. Lynne Fayer, and 2. Chris & David Turner
