Building Heroes A military charity providing training leading to a gateway of construction employment opportunities

Building Heroes provides free skills training to Military Veterans and support into employment in the building trades. Our aim is to tackle unemployment amongst those who have kept us safe by offering them a seamless transition to a new career in construction.

“Building Heroes is an inspirational charity. This second lease of life is exactly what our service people need, and provides a role, an

income to support their family, and also dignity.”- James Haskell, International Athlete, England Rugby Player, Captain of Wasps Rugby team.

Our Darlington learners had a brilliant day visiting Lovell Homes Benwell Dene site last month - despite the unseasonal hailstorms! The visit provided a fantastic opportunity to bring classroom learning to life.

Our learners explored properties at different stages of construction, from plastering through to final snagging. This hands-on experience allowed them to deepen their understanding of the build process and ask insightful questions alongside their tutors.

The day concluded with a presentation from the Lovell team, who shared valuable insights into their roles, the company’s work, and opportunities within the industry.

Experiences like this are vital in helping our Service Leavers, veterans, and military families build confidence and industry awareness as they transition into construction careers - and their feedback speaks for itself, proving that engagements like this form a crucial part of their transition.

🗨️ "It was great to be able to ask questions and refer back to our teaching"
🗨️ "It was really interesting as I've not been on a house build site before!"
🗨️ "I think it's nice that [Lovell] are interested in Service Leavers...and give a chance to visit during the course"

A huge thank you to the Lovell team for their time, support, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of construction professionals. 👏

This , we’re celebrating the incredible individuals, alumni and industry partners who give their time to support Building Heroes Education Foundation 💙

Across our academies, we are fortunate to be supported by a wide network of volunteers, corporate partners and alumni who help bring the construction and built environment sector to life for our learners.

From organisations including Davidsons Homes, BAM, Arada London, Concrete Repairs Ltd, Sunbelt Rentals, Lovell Homes, Morgan Sindall , MGroupHighways and Bovis Homes, to individuals who give their time freely, this support plays a vital role in every learner’s journey.

Whether through classroom talks, mentoring, site visits, engagement days or sharing their own lived experience, our volunteers provide real-world insight, honest advice and encouragement. These moments help bridge the gap between training and employment, while building confidence for what comes next.

A special thank you to supporters such as Karl Auger from CRL, who regularly shares his journey from military service into a new career, and to alumni like Phil Duke, who continue to give back by inspiring new learners starting their own transition.

To everyone who volunteers their time - speaking, mentoring, supporting events or returning cohort after cohort - thank you.

You are helping our learners transition into successful careers beyond service.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Donna Jones and Andrew Tyerman from Marshalls plc are taking on the ultimate test of endurance - the Priory 100km ultramarathon from Bamburgh to Tynemouth on June 6th! - to raise funds for Building Heroes Education Foundation.

This is an extraordinary challenge in support of a cause that means a great deal to them; particularly for Andy as an ex-Royal Navy veteran, who has experienced first-hand some of the barriers faced by military personnel transitioning to civilian life.

🗨️ “I did not know what my role equated to in civilian life… often service leavers are not aware of the benefits to the skills they learned within the forces and how they can be applied to civilian life.”

At Building Heroes, our mission is to support veterans, Service Leavers and their families into new careers in construction, helping to overcome the challenges many face when considering their next move after military careers.

👉 Currently at 34% of their £500 target, please join us in supporting Donna and Andy, and help get them over the finish line!
https://www.justgiving.com/page/100kultra?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL

Every penny raised will go towards supporting members of the Armed Forces community into meaningful roles in construction.

We’re so grateful to Donna and Andy for going the extra mile (and then some!), and to Marshalls, one of our valued Silver Sponsors, for continuing to champion the military community. 👏
