๐ World Mental Health Day
Today, on World Mental Health Day, all mental health is important but weโre shining a light on the mental health and wellbeing of children in care and care leavers.
For some young people, growing up in care can mean experiencing loss, separation, uncertainty, and changes that are difficult to process. For care leavers, those challenges can continue into adulthood โ often at a time when theyโre expected to become independent much earlier than their peers.
Behind every care-experienced young person is a story. And sometimes, what looks like anger, withdrawal, anxiety or disengagement can be a young person communicating that theyโre struggling.
๐ Every child deserves to feel safe.
๐ Every young person deserves to be heard.
๐ Every care leaver deserves support beyond the age of 18.
๐ Mental health support should be accessible, trauma-informed and free from stigma.
Today, and every day, letโs listen without judgment, offer support without conditions, and remember that care experience should never define a young personโs future.
You are more than your care story. Your wellbeing matters. Your voice matters. You matter. ๐
