A plea from 4th Worth Scouts - please contact David on the email below

Dear Parents and Carers

The last six months have been difficult times for us all. Aside from the way it has impacted on our work and our children’s education, it has also changed Scouting in ways we could not imagine.

Throughout that time, the 4th Worth leaders have been enormously creative and run some amazing activities online which many of you have commented have far exceeded the offerings from local schools and other activities your young people have been involved in. So I’d first like to extend a huge thank you to them all for their dedication, time and commitment throughout that period.

However, as parents and carers who have been home schooling, you will know that keeping things going and imagining things differently is exhausting. We entered the pandemic at a time when we urgently needed Scout leaders and with two since stepping down 4th Worth, and Martlets Scouts are now in desperate need of your help.

I would like to restart Scouts from some time in October and have given a promise that we WILL return. Our remaining leaders are also keen that we should resume, but cannot do it alone. I have a couple of offers from parents to help on an adhoc basis, for which I thank you, but we need for two or three people to step forward to become regular leaders or helpers if we are to sustain Scout meetings. The more we have, the more we can spread the load and it’s no longer exhausting, but highly rewarding.

The Group has survived two world wars in its 112 year history. With your help, it can also come through the pandemic. All of the current leaders volunteered for a reason – they wanted to give something back, teach life skills, offer something special to young people that they don’t get from any other organisation or activity they do.

Every one of you also has something special to offer. A skill, an interest, your cooking skills, your love of camping, but most of all your time. I urge you please to think about all the things your child has gained from being at 4th Worth, all because a few people like you have given up just a few hours each week to make it happen, then get in touch withy me via the email below.

We provide your uniform and the training you need, but only you, or someone you know, can make the difference between Scouts continuing at 4th Worth.

Yours in Scouting
David Palmer, Group Scout Leader

Thank you all for coming out and joining us for our Festival of Lights it was a little windy but thankfully the rain stayed away for us.

The vision for this event was to pull together people from different communities by being inclusive and as I looked around at the many people there yesterday I could see that it was exactly that.

Happy Diwali!

Just 3 days to go until the big event and the weather forecast is indicating some light rain. In the event of rain the fireworks will still go ahead unless it is deemed dangerous by the company themselves before the start. In this instance we will report it across our social media and we will fully refund anyone who has purchased advanced tickets.

It’s going to be brilliant even if we do have some rain, we have some yummy food and drinks on offer too including our usual burger van, bar and Delia's Mauritian Street Food as well as some Indian sweets and samosas and candy floss. We also have our tattoo stall with glitter tattoos as well as transfers and bindis too, glow sticks, lantern making, a sensory tent and some colouring. Please also come and join in with the Bhangra dancing at 6:15.

Looking forward to seeing lots of you there!

Get your tickets at pta-events.co.uk/friendsofthreebridges . You’ll also be able to buy them on the night.
